Family Choice: In-Person Session on September 19 or Virtual Zoom Meetings
We understand choosing to attend an in-person session is a family choice. For that reason, this session is VOLUNTARY. For the month of September, your family can choose to join this September 19 In-Person Session OR the virtual Monthly Zoom Meeting that your family regularly attends online. The family activities that will be offered at the In-Person Session will be the same theme as activities taught during the virtual Monthly Zoom Meeting.
Structure of this In-Person Family Faith Event
This In-Person Session will be set up similar to a fair atmosphere (not a formal class). On the lawn outside the office of Holy Family Parish, different tables with activities will be set up for families to learn and enjoy. Come together with your children anytime between 1:00PM-2:30PM.
What if it Rains or the Weather Does Not Permit for this Outdoor In-Person Session?
This In-Person Session will be cancelled. An email will be sent to families on the morning of September 19 to inform that it is cancelled. It will also be posted on our website, Facebook & Twitter. If the In-Person Session is cancelled, please join your regularly scheduled Zoom Meeting.
This is a FAMILY Faith Event
This In-Person Session is a FAMILY event. Please come with your family. Parents, do not drop off or allow children to attend this event alone.

Mass Readings for Sunday, September 12: Twenty-Fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time
In Mark's Gospel, Jesus' disciples begin to recognize how powerful and wonderful Jesus is. However, when He lived on Earth, Jesus' rule was not quite what people expected or anticipated. They wanted a conquering, physically impressive leader. Jesus came as a suffering servant. They wanted political power in this life, but Jesus established spiritual power for the life to come. We can give thanks that Jesus suffered for our sake and that through Him we have hope and salvation.
This Gospel Reading reminds us to consider Jesus as more than a "typical hero." Jesus was not the expected hero that people might have anticipated. His disciples didn't like the idea that He would suffer and die, but Jesus knew it was part of God's plan. This message reminds us why Jesus had to die in order to provide salvation, and in doing so He was a true and everlasting hero.
Activities for Family
Jesus Holds the Pieces Together!
In this weekend's Gospel, Mark describes how Jesus asked His Disciples, “Who do people say that I am?” Like Peter in the Gospel, it can be difficult to describe Jesus' greatness in a single word. In this project, children brainstorm qualities and characteristics of Jesus. These characteristics keep our faith "together"!
Materials
- Puzzle pieces from old puzzles in different sizes, or create puzzle pieces using different color construction paper
- Colored paper
- Glue
- Markers
- Decorating materials
Procedures
- On the colored paper, draw an outline of a cross. At the top of the paper, use markers to write: "Jesus Holds the Pieces Together!"
- Gather puzzle pieces from old puzzles, or create puzzle pieces out of colored paper.
- On each puzzle piece, write a description or characteristic of Jesus that HOLDS us together (for example: peace, love, hope, truth, help, etc.).
- Glue the puzzle pieces onto the cross. Decorate your project!

Answers to last week's questions:
- Hispanic is a term used to describe someone that comes from a spanish-speaking origin. Meanwhile, Latino is a term used to describe those of a Latin American origin, like Brazil. “Hispanic refers more to language, while Latino/Latina refers more to culture” (GENIAL, 2017).
- Hispanic Heritage month starts Wednesday, September 15 and ends October 15. We celebrate Hispanic Heritage month to recognize the positive impact that Hispanic Americans have left on our country.
