What is it?
Imagery is the use of vivid or figurative language to represent objects, actions, or ideas.
What is it really?
Imagery is the use of very elaborate words or speaking techniques to show rather than tell about something. It is most closely related to a metaphor or mental image.
How is it used?
The F-16 swooped down like an eagle after its prey.
He could hear the footsteps of doom nearing
The waves crashed like thunder.
On a starry winter night in Portugal
Where the ocean kissed the southern shore
There a dream I never thought would come to pass
Came and went like time spent through an hourglass
