Lions Park Paw Prints

Letter from the Principal

Dear Lions Park Families,

We had a wonderful week celebrating the arts at Lions Park! Our students' artwork was on display at our Fine Arts Night. Thanks to our art teacher, Mrs. Merrill, for helping students to curate their show by selecting pieces to display and arranging their artwork. The chorus groups put on a wonderful performance led by our music teacher, Mrs. Koehlinger. Last night was special with the first D57 outdoor band concert conducted by Mr. Acuna for all levels of band. We were particularly excited to see our fifth-grade band students perform at the bandshell.

We are enjoying watching our fifth graders enjoy their last weeks at Lions Park. We will return to our pre-Covid clap out to honor the Lions Park Class of 2022. On May 31st, the students will leave their classrooms before 3pm and take one last walk through our hallways while the staff and younger students line the hallways and clap for them. They will exit Door 5 (near the middle of the school on the courtyard/staff parking lot side. Their families are welcome to join them there and congratulate them as they exit Lions Park as students for the last time.

We are looking forward to our annual Field Day on May 25th (the rain date of May 26th). This is a fun day of outdoor activities and games. We need parent volunteers for this day. Please sign up at this link. The second and third grades will be in the morning and the fourth and fifth grades will be in the afternoon.

The end of the school year is an exciting and special time, but it also can produce mixed feelings for students and staff. Even those who are excited about summer and the next grade level can feel sadness at the thought of leaving their current teacher and classmates (and school for our fifth graders!). We will do our best to make students feel comfortable by maintaining routines as long as possible. if your child expresses worry or upset about the year ending, you can reassure them that it is normal to feel this way and encourage them to talk with you or other family and friends about their feelings. Some children may also enjoy putting together a memory book where they write or draw about things they will fondly remember from this school year.

Warmly,

Katie Kelly

Principal
