Spirit Week, Red Ribbon Week, Blood Drive, Siwanoy Cluster Breakfast
Hello ALMS Families,
Happy Friday and a Happy Halloween Weekend! We have had quite an eventful week. Our students and staff showed tremendous school spirit and recognized Red Ribbon Week. Next week we have another spirit week (see below). We encourage you all to participate. It was so much fun to see how students and staff played along. The entire school is trying to figure out who "Al" might be. Hopefully, we can find out on Monday. Our community supported the Student Government's first Blood Drive. We are so proud of Ms. Fata and her team of outstanding students for planning and executing an event to support such a worthy cause. Finally, the Siwanoy cluster breakfast was a huge success. Our parents provided a delicious spread for the students, and the turnout was tremendous.
There is another Spirit Week starting on Monday, October 31st. Please see the flyer below for the details of the days. The photos from the spirit weeks often end up in our yearbooks, we encourage everyone to participate.
Note about costumes: We allow all staff and students to wear costumes for Halloween. Please know that you may not wear facemasks or have any item that looks like a weapon (real or imaginary), and the outfit must be appropriate for school. The dress code still applies. Please see page 13 of the code of conduct.

There were SO MANY nice things happening around school this week! That’s exactly what we were hoping to see!! Thank you!! Thank you!!!
For today’s activity, we’ve got a fun online survey for the students to fill out. Feel free to fill this out at your leisure over the weekend!

Thank you again for your participation, and have a safe and happy weekend!
CANDY WAR
- Runs from Tuesday 11/1 through Tuesday 11/15.
- Every 7th period/Day 1 Class will be given a brown paper bag.
- The day after Halloween all students will be encouraged to donate some of their Halloween candy AND/OR the candy their parents have left over from lack of trick/treaters.
- Students will drop their candy into the brown bag in their 7th period class.
- The class that collects the most pounds of candy wins the war and will get a reward
- On the last day of collection 11/15 an announcement will be made 7th period, for all teachers to staple their bag closed and have a student bring it to the cafeteria.
- A PTA representative from each grade will collect the bags. We will weigh the candy and declare a 6th, 7th and 8th grade winning class
- All the candy collected will be donated to Hope Community Kitchen here in New Rochelle.
Thank you Siwanoy 6 Teachers & Parents for a beautiful breakfast!
Blood Drive at ALMS
Thank you to Ms. Fata and the Student Government to make this noble event possible!
On Thursday, October 20th, two of our 8th grade ELA teachers, Ms. Costa and Ms. Gold, along with Mr. Luhman, the Humanities Chair, all attended Teacher Day at the Dodge Poetry Festival. The Festival is widely acknowledged as the largest poetry event in North America, representing the most eminent poets from the late 20th and early 21st centuries. The Festival, held in even-numbered years since 1986, has drawn a combined audience of approximately 140,000 attendees from 42 states, including 17,000 teachers and 42,000 students.
The poets who have appeared at the Dodge Festival are a veritable who's-who of American and international poets. The presentations and materials provided give teachers a wealth of curricular and instructional resources for supporting students in both reading and writing poetry. This year, our school team got to hear presentations by the likes of Sharon Olds, Terrance Hayes, Yusef Komunyakaa, Kwame Dawes, Aimee Nezhukumatathil, and Sandra Cisneros. More details about the festival can be found here.
ALMS Gives:
Chromebook Responsibilities
To ALMS Parents and Students,
As a Middle School student, you are required to come to school with your district-provided chromebook charged. The district-provided chromebook is also your responsibility; if it's in your backpack, locker, on a bus, or at home, you must keep it protected from being damaged or lost/stolen.
Please refer to the AUP and Device Loaner Form, which you have signed with your parent/guardian, and review the terms and conditions listed on the form both inside and outside of school. If you have not already signed the AUP and/or Loaner Form, please click on the link above.
To all parents/guardians, please speak with your child regarding Chromebook care and responsibilities. Some of the computers are damaged due to students spilling liquids, tossing them to the ground during recess, getting knocked around in a backpack, or dropping them. Damaged Chromebooks are subject to fees. You may want to consider purchasing a case as was indicated on the school supply list.
You can refer to our Acceptable Use Policy and Device Loaner Form (linked above) for the CSDNR policy.
Thank you for your cooperation and understanding!
