Summer Challenge
Summer has arrived! This year, your children have worked hard building strong academic skills. During the summer months, we encourage our students to keep working on the math and reading skills they have developed over the course of the year.
We present the Glenwood Summer Challenge. Please encourage your children to participate in this challenge. Children who complete the challenge will be rewarded with a boxed lunch we purchase from the cafeteria, a special game and other activities along with extra recess. In order to earn this game, children will have to complete the challenge and turn their journals into their classroom teachers. Children must turn in a completed
reading and math journal the first week of school to qualify. Please take the time to enjoy your summer! Participating in this challenge should only take a few minutes each day.
If you ever have any concerns or questions, please reach out to the classroom teachers at Glenwood. All teachers have access to emails and will always respond within 1-2 school days. Working together as a team will enable all students to reach their academic potential.

March/April 2018 Health Update
Welcome to the Health Update- I wanted to let you know that we are still seeing cases of the flu this season. We need to continue to follow the same precautions we have been doing to help prevent the spread of the flu. We had a presentation put on by the Wachusett Medical Reserve Corp on Whack The Flu and things you can do to help prevent it.
1. The number one priority is to practice good hand washing at all times. Wash your hands often with soap and warm water, especially after sneezing and coughing.
2. Practice good cough and sneezing etiquette by sneezing into a tissue or your elbow instead of your hands. Discard the tissues in the basket and wash your hands again.
3. Avoid people who are sick.
4. If your child is sick, or has flu like symptoms( fever of 100 or above, sore throat, runny nose), please keep your child home from school for at least 24 hours.
5. If your child is sick, please do not medicate them and send them to school- please contact your child’s Physician.
6. If your child has vomited and or had diarrhea within the past 24 hours, please do not send them to school. They need to stay at home for at least 24 hours after vomiting and diarrhea stops for at least 24 hours.
With Spring here and hopefully the weather turning warmer, we will also continue to think of the possibility of head lice and ticks. Head lice can be spread from close contact. Children should not be sharing hair implements, they should also not be sharing helmets and hats from various sports. If you discover your child has head lice- do not send them to school. You will need to notify your MD and they will need to properly treated before returning to school. They will need be checked here before they return to class.
Please be doing daily tick checks on your children as the weather is turning warmer. We have already seen several ticks from the warmer weather we had back in February.
To The Parents of 4th and 5th graders:
Thank You to those who have sent in recent copies of their children’s MD physicals and updated immunizations- I appreciate it! For those of you who haven’t been able to yet- if you could send them along as soon as possible, that would be great!
