The Star Gazer

Taking a Closer Look at What is Happening at Shaw Elementary

Principal's Update 10/20-10/23

Thank you all for helping to make our remote teaching and learning practice days successful. As we learn to navigate this new educational system, we have found that students who have to quarantine sometimes struggle to find all the lessons in their learning management system, Seesaw or Google Classroom. The goal of those days was simply to locate all the pieces of the online learning to ensure future success during remote/quarantined days. My apologies if I wasn't clear that the actual work did not have to be done. We also hope the scavenger hunt gave your child some fun things to do during the extended time away from school. We will have two more days like this during Thanksgiving break: Monday, Nov 23rd and Tuesday, Nov 24th. These days will be similar in that you as a family will have lots of flexibility for completing the project that will come home. It will be due after the Thanksgiving break so if you need to use those days to travel or visit family, the work can be done another day. Devices will not be sent home during Thanksgiving break since many families will be traveling. The project will be a genealogy/family tree project to help students learn more about their family history. More details will come home in a future newsletter!

Our Book Character Parade is planned for October 30th at 8:15 a.m. The Arkansas Department of Health has approved parents to attend and watch the parade, pending good weather. Below is a map of how the parade will work. The yellow arrows mark the student/teacher parade route. The white X's mark the areas where parents can sit to watch. In order to meet ADH requirements, parents/visitors must keep masks on when moving around and finding their spot. Once seated and 6 feet of distancing is established, masks may be removed. Visitors must be 12 feet back from the sidewalk. Families may sit together if they live in the same household. I know many of our families are very close and spend time together outside of school, but for this event please keep 6 feet of distance between seating areas. The parade will also be recorded and posted on our FB page after the event for those of you who cannot attend. IF the weather does not look good, we will let you know of any cancellations the day before. If anyone in your family has symptoms, is awaiting COVID test results, or quarantined, please participate by watching the posted video.

DEAL ALERT!!!! Did you know that our school does not participate in "typical" school fundraisers like selling cookie dough or wrapping paper??? Instead our awesome PTA works hard to find ways to raise money AND make your life easier! What if you could support our school AND have a delicious smoked turkey for Thanksgiving? Here is a great way to do both:

You won't want to miss out on one of these delicious smoked turkeys from Smoke-N-Swine! Quantities are limited, so we MUST receive your order form AND payment by Oct. 21st to reserve. They will be sold on a first come, first served basis. ORDER FORM:
