William The Conqueror

Biographical Info : William the Conqueror, also called "William the Bastard" was born in 1027 in Normandy, France. He was king of England from 1066 to 1087.

Memorable Moments: He defeated the English King, Harold at the battle of Hastings.

He created the Doomsday Book which held a survey of how much land and livestock people had.

“I have persecuted its native inhabitants beyond all reason. Whether gentle or simple, I have cruelly oppressed them; many I unjustly inherited; Innumerable multitudes, especially in the county of York, perished through me by famine or the sword." – William the Conqueror.

Importance : He shaped Englands feudal system. (Feudalism, king has supreme power)

He conquered England and the Anglo-Saxons.

King John

Biographical Info : King John, also known as Lackland, was born in 1167 Oxford, United Kingdom. He was King of England from 1199 until his death in 1216.

Memorable Moments : Nobels joined against him in 1215 due to his tax raises.

King John tried to kill his own father! He even tried to kill his father's second wife, Eleanor of Aquitaine.

Importance : He was forced to accept the Magna Carta, which gave rights that the King could not take away.

He lost Normandy to France.

Joan Of Arc

Biographical Info: Joan of Arc, aslo known as the "Maid of Orleans", led the French army. She was born around 1412.

Memorable Moments : She was burned at the stake because of criminal charges, such as wearing pants, when she was 19 years old.

One weird thing about her, was that she believed that God spoke to her through visions.

"I was in my thirteenth year when I heard a voice from God to help me govern my conduct. And the first time I was very much afraid." - Joan Of Arc



Importance : She helped Charles VII become the King of France during the 100 Years War.

She led the French victory over the English at the Battle of Orleans.

Joan of Arc was a symbol of French patriotism.
