Gregory Gardens Weekly Bulletin

Week of September 29, 2019

Greetings from Administration

Happy Sunday Families! Remember September is Attendance Awareness Month. No need to debate, go to school and don't be late!

Gregory Gardens Community Service Day

We had a wonderful Saturday coming together as a community to make our school better for students. Together we completed 2 murals, cleaned up, organized toys, decorated bathrooms, cleaned the garden and added a fence decoration for elementary and preschoolers to enjoy. Thank you to everyone who donated time and materials to make the projects a reality.

Halloween 2019

This year students will be allowed to wear their costumes to school on Halloween, Thursday October 31st. We will continue to reserve the parade for our youngest Gators- preschool, TK and Kindergarten friends. In the coming weeks a flyer will be sent home regarding school appropriate costumes. We are excited to bring back an old Gregory Gardens Tradition.

Label belongings

We are doing our best at helping students keep track of their belongings. Please remember to label all reusable containers, water bottles, sweatshirts and jackets. Our lost and found is already filling up :( We will be making a donation run at the beginning of November..... please be sure to come find your items.

Walk/Bike to school day 2019

Join the fun on Walk/Bike-to-School Day at Gregory Gardens and Robert Shearer!

This is part of a nationwide effort to celebrate the joys of walking and biking and open the eyes of students, families, school and community leaders and partners in seeing the possibilities for walking and biking to school every day. Everyone who rides or walks to school will get a special sticker upon arrival. The class with the most students who walk or ride gets a special prize AND an extra recess!!!

If you live too far, you can still participate. Simply park somewhere in the surrounding neighborhood and walk or ride in. If you would like a FREE bike helmet, please contact GGPTAINFO@YAHOO.COM! We have received a donation of quite a few brand new, solid black bike helmets!

To help provide snacks for busy gators rushing out the door to participate in this event, please check out our sign up!

Campus Updates

We are in the final phases of our roofing project. Once complete, I will be working with M&O to get our blacktop fixed.

Campus Climate

I am working closely with students and families to support student success. Recently we have had reports of inappropriate language being used at school. Students are often using adult language on the playground. Words are intended to hurt and insult peers. Please watch the video below with your students and talk with them about positive ways to express their frustration or displeasure with peers. Please work with your students on resolving conflict in a school appropriate way. Language we use at school, "STOP- we don't do that at our school", " I feel unsafe when you use bad language around me", " I am getting a teacher for help"

We will continue to work together as a community to create a safe and respectful environment for all.

Back Gate

For the safety of our students and staff the back gate will be locked at 8:15am and unlocked between 2:00-2:15 pm each afternoon. (12:15 on Wednesday). We appreciate your cooperation and flexibility as we keep our campus safe.

Gator Time and Academies

Beginning tomorrow students will participate in two rotations to support student achievement.

Gator Time- 1st and 2nd grade, 9:40-10:10 and Academies- 3rd-5th grade, 8:00-8:30. Students will receive support in areas of language, reading or math.

Garden Education

We are thrilled to bring Sheila Hill to GG as our new Garden Education teacher. Sheila will be working with students to plant, harvest and learn healthy cooking habits. Garden rotations begin this week and last 4 weeks. Tk-2nd grade students will start and 3-5th graders will begin in November. Sheila will be with us until May.

Please refrain from picking any vegetables from our garden.... students will need these during class time.

Volunteer Opportunities

*Check into the office to receive your visitors pass.

*Adults will be verified using our online database.

*Make yourself available to all students.

Thank you for helping support our positive and safe campus climate.

Volunteers are always encouraged, any day of the week - just come in when you can. However, for the safety of everyone, we can no longer allow non Gregory Gardens children on campus during volunteering, unless they can be carried in a baby carrier.

Robert Shearer Preschool

Picture day is coming up for our Preschoolers- Photographers will be here on October 7 and 8 to capture the smiles of our youngest students. Our Preschool Parade Tradition will continue this year on Halloween. Stay tuned for details. We want to thank our wonderful team who worked with students during vision screening in each preK classroom last week. We are a great team!

What's Happening around Preschool

Rooms K4, 5, and 6 gather together every Tuesday morning in the Elementary Music Room to share in a large group music activity. The teachers of the three classrooms take turns taking the lead. The children have an opportunity to participate in familiar and new songs in a larger group setting.

Drop Off/ Pick Up Procedures

We need your help to reinstate best practices for preschool drop off and pick up. Parents may not park or pull into the bus circle between 8:00am-2:30pm. Parents should park in a designated parking stall and walk their student to the preschool. If your child starts at 8:30 please bring them to the playground gate where your teachers will be waiting to receive them. 10:40 students should come into the pod and enter the playground from the back double doors. Teachers will be there to greet students. At dismissal, please park and walk to meet your child outside the pod at the appropriate time. Thank you for helping us streamline our procedures. We appreciate your flexibility.

It's not to late to register for this years run. We are hoping to have a GGES/RSP group attend this year's Break A Sweat For Education! Please let us know if you have signed up to participate.
