CDW Weekly Wrap-Up

March 31, 2023

A Message from Ms. Santa

It's Cherry Blossom Season!

"Cherry blossoms are a symbolic flower of the spring, a time of renewal, and the fleeting nature of life. Their life is very short. After their beauty peaks around two weeks, the blossoms start to fall." -Smithsonian

As we come to the end of Marking Period 3 next week, I hope the students take time to reflect on the year and go into Marking Period 4 with renewal as they complete their last marking period of the 2022-2023 school year.

Grade 5 Literary March Madness

The 5th graders in Ms. Fischer and Mrs. Park’s Language Arts classes culminated their Literary March Madness competition with argument essays and a class debate! Over the past week, students individually chose winners and worked to support their choices in writing. On Thursday, each class held a debate, during which the students were able to present their choices and reasons and tried to convince the other side to switch their vote. Ultimately, the Harry Potter series beat the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series in the final vote, with 66% of the 5th grade voting for Harry Potter!

International Food Festival

Hi CDW Parents,

The CDW International Food Festival is back! The Food Festival is a highlight of the year and we hope this year will be no exception! As in past years, we provide a food item (lunch or dessert category) from your country to share with the students and teachers at CDW. Past participating countries included Armenia, China, Cuba, Greece, India, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Korea, Lithuania, Montenegro, Poland, Spain, Mexico and USA. Spread the word and if you know someone who is interested, please let me know.

The date has been set for Wednesday , May 3rd, in the CDW Rossi gym. We will be serving BOTH lunch periods, so from 11:00 AM(set-up) to 12:45 PM(clean-up) serving approximately 400 students and staff.

This is a PTO sponsored event, so we will be able to reimburse part or all of your food expense, but there are ways to cut down either by reducing the choices of food offered, home cooking part or all, or maybe donating a portion.

Please let me know by Thursday, April 21st, if you would like to participate. Please contact me if you have any questions.

Thank you and looking forward to a great Food Festival!

Kind Regards,

The Nex-Trex Plastic Film Recycling Program is Back!

We are collecting plastic film in the three containers outside of CDW. Once a month, from October through April, our CDW students in the Environmental Justice classes will retrieve the collection bags, weigh the contents, and track our collections. Our custodians will then bring our recycling to the collection center. In April, we will find out how our school ranked in the collection of recyclable plastic film. If we collect the most in our school size category, we could win another Trex bench for our outdoor classroom! Last year we collected 1,796 lbs of plastic!

Please see the flyer below for more information!
