Campus Needs Assessment
On April 12, we had our Campus Needs Assessment. Staff met together in the library and we brainstormed the strengths and needs in the areas of Student Achievement, Curriculum, Instruction, & Assessment, Technology, School Culture & Climate, Family & Community Involvement, and School Context & Organization. I was proud of our teachers as they listed everything with the best interest of our students in mind. I saw a marked difference in this year's CNA than last year. The culture at Phillips is changing. The first priority is our students and what is in their best interest. We will meet as a Campus Improvement Committee on May 15 to review the strengths and needs and build our campus plan for 2017-2018.
T-TESS Summatives
The last two weeks of April were spent on Teacher Summatives. Mrs. Russell and myself met with all 38 teachers and discussed Domain 4, Professional Practices and Responsibilities. We reviewed their goal evidence for the year and discussed a new goal for 2017-2018 and Professional Development over the summer to support their goal. The days were long but the conversations were valuable. T-TESS has truly allowed our teachers to reflect and focus on their own growth as a teacher. Student achievement is sure to be impacted by this focus on instructional improvement.
Morris Brothers
The Morris Brothers came to visit our students on April 28. It was a much needed break for the students and staff from the stress of STAAR preparation. The brothers sang and danced and had lots of audience participation. Their message was all about students doing their best and being superheroes in the classroom. It was a very fun way to end out the month.
Teacher Appreciation/PTO Style
Our PTO did an amazing job of spoiling our teachers the first week of May. Their theme was Baseball and they started the week with a Breakfast of Champions. The foyer was decorated with a banner and each staff member had a baseball card with their "stats". PTO gave out cracker jacks and peanuts, candy, baseball cupcakes and hosted a Hot Dog Homerun Lunch mid week for the staff. A lucky staff member will win the raffle for Ranger baseball tickets.
