CONSCIOUS DISCIPLINE - Corner
Brain Smart Start at Home
Everyday at school, your child participates in a Brain Smart Start… a way to start the day in our Executive State. Would you like to try this at home? Here are the components, and some ideas for you.
Activity to Unite
This is a time for your whole family to unite together as one. You might do this through a family-created chant, or you could sing a song together or dance to a song together. You could even make up your own family pledge, that you recite together each morning.
Activity to Disengage Stress
There is nothing more essential to health and well-being breathing. To practice conscious breathing, take three deep breaths, breathing in through your nose and out through your mouth.
Activity to Connect
Something your family may want to do to connect is Wish Wells. Think of a person you love who could use your well wishes. To wish well, we end loving energy to others. Put your hands over your heart and take a deep breath in. As you exhale, breathe out and imagine love streaming through your back and out of your open heart to your loved one.
Activity to Commit
This is where each family member can make a commitment for the day. You may commit to staying on task at school or to having dinner together as a family. Maybe you commit to putting away electronics at the end of the day, and getting outside as a family.
Start everyday with a Brain Smart Start and you’ll bring your mind to where your body is and place your attention in the present now. That is where your safety lies and where your brain functions optimally.
