Westridge Wildcat News
August 5, 2019
Dear Wildcat Families,
We are so excited to start another awesome school year together! Our building is going to be beautiful, and I can’t wait to see the new, fresh hallways filled with little people gathering, laughing and learning.
This summer, central office leadership asked me to move into a part time position supporting literacy across the district. I will continue as Westridge Principal, but will also be adding District Coordinator of Elementary Literacy and Assessment to my role. For those days that I am collaborating at a district level, Ryann Furrer has been hired as the new Dean of Students at Westridge. Ms. Furrer has been active as our RTI coordinator in the building for the last two years. The role of RTI coordinator has been filled by long time LOSD teacher leader, Lindsay Kopacek. Please join me as we welcome these highly competent professionals into their new roles supporting student learning at Westridge.
A few important dates ahead:
August 12th, 6pm – 7pm, Lakeridge HS Library - Q & A about Westridge bond project
August 22nd, 1:30 – 3:30pm – Westridge - Smart Start for all students with IEPs or 504s
August 26th, 8:10am – Westridge – First day of school grades 1-5
August 29th, 8:10am – Westridge – First day of school Kindergarten
Teachers will be emailing all kindergarten families in the next couple of weeks to schedule an opportunity for you to bring your child in for a brief assessment on the 26, 27, or 28th. This is a developmentally appropriate state-required assessment, there is nothing you have to do to prepare your child.
Please keep your eyes open for weekly Wildcat Newsletters. I will continue to keep you updated. This week, I will be attending training and planning with district leadership. Office hours will continue at Palisades. We are all looking forward to the moment the building is ready to hold us.
Our Back to School Night this year will be from 6:00-8:00pm on September 19th. Please mark your calendars!
Smart Start Available for Students who Access 504 or Special Education Services:
Please follow the link, Smart Start Checklist 2019-2020, to the LOSD Smart Start document. The information will assist students who have IEP or 504 services. The document has helpful information regarding transportation, case managers and a before-school-begins opportunity to meet your student's teacher(s).
Online student enrollment verification (NEW)
Online Verification: Beginning July 29, parents of all students already enrolled for the 2019-20 school year can log into ParentVUE and review/update their students' information through the Online Registration tab. Schools rely on parents to ensure that this information is correct so they can contact the appropriate people during an emergency, respond to a medical situation, and communicate non-emergency information effectively.
If you have forgotten your ParentVUE password, go to the login page, click "I am a Parent," then click "Create New Account or Reset Password" and choose "Forgot Password". (The district will mail another Activation Key letter to parents who have not created a ParentVUE login and have an elementary school student.) For guidance, visit the LOSD website (under "Enrolling and Transfer > Online Registration) or contact your student's school during its summer office hours. We appreciate your help!
Enjoy the rest of this beautiful summer!
