Lunch with your Student
Beginning in January, parents will be able to eat lunch on campus with their child on Mondays. Additionally, there are some guidelines which must be followed to ensure the safety and well-being of everyone on campus:
- Parents must be on time for their child’s scheduled lunch time.
- Parents must communicate with their child’s teacher that they will be coming to lunch on that day.
- Parents must sign in at the front office and then will be escorted to the cafeteria to meet their child if they are not a registered volunteer.
- There will be a designated table that the parent and student will sit, this will not be with the class.
- Parents may only have lunch with their child, no exceptions will be allowed.
- While having lunch with your child, no cameras or phones taking pictures are permitted to protect the privacy of other students and families.
- We strongly encourage younger siblings to stay home as we will have limited seating available.
- Visitors/Volunteers are expected to dress appropriately when visiting campus.
- Once your child’s lunch is over, they will promptly join their class to dismiss. Parents are not able to follow their child/the class back to the classroom and will sign out in the front office.

Curriculum Updates
PreK
Mrs. Monteparo’s VPK class had a field trip to the zoo last month. The Blended Class and VPK Class will be participating in a hands Nature Play experience at school in which students will be exploring animal habitats, playing at a mud table, and touching worms. Parents will be joining students and learn about the importance of Family Nature Activities. We will be starting Unit 5 in the Benchmark Ready to Advance Early Learning Program. We will be learning about Celebrations and Winter. Students have been learning about primary colors and mixing them to make secondary colors.
Kindergarten
First Grade
2nd Grade
Second grade students are excited about reading folktales. These are traditional stories that often teach a lesson and are part of many cultures. Every story is narrated from a unique point of view which shapes the meaning of the story. Valuable lessons can be learned about understanding others, working together, and problem-solving through stories. We are examining how a story can change, depending on who tells it. Our math focus is on solving one - and two-step addition and subtraction real-world problems.
Look for your second grade teacher helping at the spaghetti dinner. See you there!
3rd Grade
4th Grade
Fourth graders have been learning about Equivalent Fractions in Math. We have been comparing points of view in characters in ELA and working hard to develop our writing skills. In Science, we have begun working on our Science Fair projects. Please ask your student to tell you about his or her experiment. We hope you enjoy your Winter Break!
5th Grade
We hope everyone enjoyed a happy Thanksgiving!
In ELA, we have begun Unit 4 which will focus on recognizing an author’s point of view. We will read various poems and determine how different perspectives help us evaluate our world.
In Social Studies, students will enjoy an in-depth study of the New England Colonies and the Middle Colonies and gain an understanding of daily life and the contributions of important individuals to the foundation of America.
6th Grade
In math, we have begun Unit 5 Rational numbers and the Coordinate Plane. Students are learning what integers are (positive and negative numbers) and rational numbers and how they are applied in the real-world. Once they have built that understanding we will extend the learning to the coordinate plane.

Science at home!
December is full of fun and exciting lessons in all grade levels. Here are some easy to do at home activities that will help enhance what your child is learning in class.
Kindergarten: (Objects in the Sky) Find a nice place to sit outside and observe objects in the sky. Students can discuss or draw a picture of what they see. (Moon, stars, Sun, birds, planes, etc.). Visit a few different places to compare and contrast observations.
1st: (Fast and Slow Changes) Discuss things that happen slowly (mountains forming, canyons forming, etc.). Discuss things that happen fast (earthquakes, flash floods, etc.). To demonstrate: Put a cookie in a plastic container with a lid and shake to simulate an earthquake. What happened to the cookie? Take another cookie and slowly drip water on it to simulate rain. Have a discussion about the rate of change to both cookies.
2nd: (Properties of Matter) Observe and measure objects in terms of their properties, including size, shape, color, temperature, weight, texture, sinking or floating in water, and attraction and repulsion of
Magnets. Practice using rulers and scales to find measurements.
3rd: (Behavior of Light) Use a flashlight to investigate how light passes through or reflects off of different materials. Students should understand that light travels in a straight line until it hits an object.
4th: (Minerals and Rocks) Collect rocks from around the yard. Students can sort rocks by the following classifications: hardness, color, luster, cleavage, and streak color.
5th: (Body Organs and Healthy Systems) Use materials from around the house to create a model of a human body. For example q-tips can be used as the skeleton. In fifth grade the students need to be able to identify and describe the function of the following organs: skin, brain, heart, lungs, stomach, liver, intestines, pancreas, muscles and skeleton, reproductive organs, kidneys, bladder, and sensory organs.
6th: (Global Patterns and Cycling) Create a model of the sun, land and water. You will need a large container or plastic tub. Separate it into two sections. One side should have soil and rocks and the other should have water. Attach a heat lamp to your container. Track the temperature differences of the water, land, and air. Discuss how energy provided by the Sun influences global patterns of atmospheric movement and the temperature differences between air, water, and land.
