Mrs. Kennedy's Friday Letter

Sept. 16, 2016

Verse to share: "Surely God is my salvation; I will trust and not be afraid. The LORD the LORD himself is my strength and my defense; he has become my salvation." Isaiah 12:2, I hope this blesses you as much as it did me!

Having a field trip and conferences in one week makes for a short week. We will NOT have a Memory Verse next week.

Regarding field trip:

- Bring lunch in a labeled and disposable bag.

- Please wear school polo and tennis shoes. Children may choose to wear jeans.

-Children need to ride the bus so we can all stay together. Parents may choose to ride the bus or drive - maybe carpool?

A peek into our week

ELA - 2 out of 3 of our Book Club books were about apples/trees. I also read several non-fiction books about apple trees to the class. We loved learning about what an important job the bee plays in this process. We are thankful for their dirty feet! And we really liked learning about HOW other animals that eat the fallen apples help to spread the growth of other trees... Yes, potty talk is always a hit in 2nd grade:) We decided to have a scientific taste test of several different kinds of apples. Thank you Mrs. Bryson for getting this ready for us! The Honey Crisp Apple was the clear winner!!! Our third group read a book about Earth. We had great discussions about how God's Word always trumps anything a book or scientist says. It made my heart happy when I read one of the book reports. One of the questions was, "What lesson did you learn from this book?" the reply to this was, "Don't always believe what Scientists believe." The creation of Earth was was a divine plan of our Creator - not just something that "happened" in space! Perfect!

Parts of speech - We are continuing to work on learning the different parts of speech and are working on a class poem that helps us learn/review Nouns, Adjectives, Verbs, and Adverbs. Next week the kids will write their own poems.

Math - Math Talks continue to be a favorite part of Math for me. This week several of the kids came to the board and modeled different ways to solve 2 digit addition problems. I love to see how their brains work! Our Math Journals are also a good way to show this. We finished up on our Comparing and Ordering Numbers unit.

Bible - Didn't you just love their Memory Verse posters? They turned out so great that Mrs. Sarah decided to laminate them for us! We were busy reading and highlighting in our Bibles and loved learning more about Kindness.

Soc. Studies - They are doing great learning about the 3 Branches of Government. We are almost finished with our Flip Books.
