ACURIL expresses its sincere condolences
Our hearts are filled with sorrow...
Our hearts are filled with sorrow upon hearing the news that Professor Jean BERNABE, the husband of our dear Past President Marie Françoise BERNABE, has passed away.
Martinique, on April 12, 2017, in his sleep at the age of 75, following a disease that had
immobilized him for many months. "He knew he was
condemned and we expected this rapid outcome," told Marie Francoise.
Jean was a prolific french writer, linguist, and Professeur émérite ofRegional Languages and Culture at the Université des Antilles de la Guyane.
He was particularly known for his work on the Creole language. He was founder of the GEREC-F : Groupe d'Études et de Recherches en Espace Créolophone et Francophone, but also creole studies at the University. He is the author of essays, novels and articles, including his latest work published in 2016: "La dérive identitariste" (L'Harmattan)
ACURIL expresses its sincere condolences to the Bernabé Family. Our hearts and prayers go out to Marie Françoise, his two children and three grandchildren. We pray our Lord to bless and comfort Marie Françoise and her family, and grant them the strength needed during this time of grief.
There will be no vigil, according to his will.
