Klein ISD is going to Space!
We are ready to LAUNCH—literally--into our first Innovation Challenge this year! We wrote and won a grant and are very excited to be one of the districts selected to participate in the Students Spaceflight Experiments Program (SSEP) Space Shuttle Competition. Teams of 3-5 students in grades 5-12 will design an experiment showing the effect of gravity being turned off in a system. Each team will need one educator-sponsor to facilitate, but the research, ideas, and written technical proposal should come from our brilliant students.
If you’re interested in this Innovation Challenge and want more information:
- Please fill out the Interest Form.
- You will receive an access code to join the informational Schoology course once you submit the form.
- Once reviewing the information about the program in Schoology, you can sign up if you want to be a sponsor and list your student team members.
- This form, with the names of your team members, is due by September 17. (And teachers of our younger learners, don’t worry! There’s a related innovation challenge coming your way soon…more information in a future Exchange.)
Relationship Driven: #purposefulkindness
If we can create a community where no one is left behind and seen as an outcast, then we can focus on helping one another and building up each other’s strengths, allowing our world to be better for EVERYONE. Imagine the things our community can accomplish when everyone comes together and works towards a common goal.
~Klein Cain Culture4Caring Student Director Brayden Espinosa (You can read the whole awesome post here.)
PASS IT ON- honor your students and colleagues with a note. #purposefulkindness note cards can be found in any of the grade level offices, the front office, and in the teacher's lounge.
Results Focused: PRIDE
Click HERE for the PRIDE site on the Doerre Dashboard for all things Pride (calendars, resources, lesson plans, etc)
A Pride activity for today has been posted on the Doerre Dashboard.
- The PLC’s will decide who they need for intervention and/or enrichment for PRIDE.
- Each teacher will claim students on the PRIDE lists.
- The priority calendar will work like this: 3 weeks math, 3 weeks ELA, 1 week science or S.S. or Electives.
- In October, teachers will fill in their offering choice by Monday (study hall will be offered through athletics, so we do not need any more options for study hall)
- Students still need to pick their Friday choice during Pride on Wednesdays.
- Students will be sent an email on Friday with their PRIDE schedule for the following week. Please still communicate with your students about where they are going.

Cha, Cha, Cha CHANGES- INNOVATION
October is National Principals’ Month, and we are excited to honor our campus principals for their devoted service to our students, teachers, and community! The Klein Family is blessed to have principals who are student focused, relationship driven, and deeply committed to our shared vision. These inspiring leaders celebrate our successes, ensure our well-being, and keep students at the center of everything we do. Please join me in thanking our principals for their hard work, dedication, and leadership.
October is also the month that many educators hit the “Fall Wall”. Fatigue from so much hard work since the start of school sets in and it’s easy to become overwhelmed in trying to meet the needs of every student. Let’s take a few moments each week during the month of October to “Conquer the Fall Wall” with kindness. Use this link to send a uplifting message to someone in our Klein ISD Family who you admire, and let’s see if we can make our kindness and gratitude go viral!
In The Exchange this week…
- Finding Purpose Within--Klenk assistant principal, Teresa DeAlba, writes about finding your purpose and commitment to your individual growth as you think about the legacy you want to leave for others.
- Culture4Caring Initiative--Klein Collins sophomore, Emily Day, describes how the Santa Fe HS tragedy moved a group of students to take action to create a kinder community.
- Blended Learning--Klein Cain teacher, Cynthia Smith, shares her experience with integrating technology into lessons and how she’s been able to give students voice and choice in their assignments.
- A Parent Liaison’s Perspective--Klein Intermediate parent liaison, Andreina Savelli, explains how Klein’s Family Engagement program has continued to grow and build relationships with families.
- Klein In Space Volunteer Form--We need your help in finding industry experts who would like to assist teams.
