Zones of Regulation

Mrs. Hargrave (our amazing Student Success Coach) and I have been visiting each classroom to teach about the Zones of Regulation. To begin our lesson, we went over the different parts of the brain and what happens in our brain when we become dysregulated. You can view the video below to hear about what we taught students and to help you have conversations at home with your child about the brain. We then connected the brain and it's functions to the zones and the feelings we experience when we are in the yellow, blue, green, or red zone.

The Zones fo Regulation (or just 'Zones') is described as:

“The Zones is a systematic, cognitive behavioral approach used to teach self-regulation by categorizing all the different ways we feel and states of alertness we experience into four concrete colored zones. The Zones framework provides strategies to teach students to become more aware of and independent in controlling their emotions and impulses, manage their sensory needs, and improve their ability to problem solve conflicts.”
