Marsha Skrypuchs making bombs for Hitler is an emotional, heart pounding, page turner book, that shows a glimpse of a lesser known part of WW2
It was the summer of 1941 and the Germans had just occupied the Ukraine and had begun to set up some rules of their own. Those rules being pretty much anything to do with the Jews. People were dragged from their homes, beaten or killed. Lida wanted to believe she was safe, she wasn’t Jewish of course. She wanted to believe everything would be okay. Then when her parents were shot, and her and her sister were taken from their home and then separated and brought to a concentration camp, it became all to clear that they were far from safe
Through this heartbreaking tale of survival and loss, Lida still manages to bring out a little bit of happiness around her. If it’s singing while in the darkest of moments or simply brightening the moods of those around her. She also manages to help the Allies win the war, by doing something must would never think of in fear of getting caught. She sabotages the bombs she makes. Making bombs for Hitler is a perfect way to educate yourself about WW2, told through first person, this book is one to keep you captivated till the last page!
5 OUT OF 5 STARS
I very willingly give this book five stars. This book was a perfect combination of suspense, the rare form of happiness and hope. The book reads itself, There was no struggle of following along. Though what put me over the top was how I was able to connect with the character Lida, through her determination, friendship and love for her sibling. I believe this book can be and should be read at any age. Like Lida said you can make beauty anywhere and that’s exactly what Marsha Skrypuch did throughout the story of a making bombs for Hitler!
