A Message from Principal Williams
Hello Skyhawk Families,
Happy November! Based on the weather the last few days, I would say that fall has arrived. Luckily, our cross country and football teams were able to finish their seasons without dealing with too much of the cold or wind. Our boys’ cross-country teams wrapped up their season with a successful race at Estacada and our girls’ cross-country teams finished 1st, 2nd and 3rd at the district meet. To wrap up the fall season, our football team defeated Liberty in the league championship game. Overall, it was a very successful season for both programs. Because we don’t wait around here on the ‘Ridge, our volleyball and wrestling seasons are now underway, and our Science Olympiad and Mock Trial teams are preparing for their competitions, as well. Check our website for game and event schedules and stop by to cheer on the Skyhawks.
The end of our day, Wednesday, featured another activity in our new WEB program. WEB stands for “Where Everybody Belongs” and is our mentor program for our 6th grade students. A group of 9-12 6th graders are paired with two 8th graders who help them adjust to middle school. They also serve as an older student that they know in the building and can go to if they need something. Wednesday’s activity was a challenge activity where the teams made their way around our building and participated in different challenges. It was great to see the enthusiasm from both our 6th graders and our WEB leaders. It has proven to be a valuable program and has really helped our youngest Skyhawks feel comfortable in the building. I also want to take a moment to say a huge thank you to Luke Valenter and Kaetlyn Roberts, two of our wonderful teachers for their work in making this program successful.
I want to wrap up October by letting you know that our food drive has been extended. As I mentioned last month, we have adopted a new acronym that you can find at the bottom of this letter. The “S” in “HAWKS” stands for “Service”, and bringing in food for our food drive can be a great way to have students experience this. It is even better and more impactful if students are buying the food themselves. Consider having your students make the initial donation and tell them you will match or even double any contribution that they make. I have done this with my daughters and the impact it has on them seems to be greater because they are using their own money. They feel an even bigger sense of pride and that feeling carries over into future events. Whatever you choose to do, I hope that you will consider contributing to our food drive that helps us “Stuff the Bus” in December.
Please continue reading the rest of our newsletter for more exciting events happening here at Skyridge. As always, don’t hesitate to contact us in the office if you have questions or concerns.
Go Skyhawks!
