Jets fly with pride with city leaders!
Jacobson student leaders were excited to welcome Chandler Mayor, Kevin Hartke and Chandler city manager Mr. Josh Wright this week.
Leaders from both the school and leaders from the city met to discuss how collective decision-making can impact a community. When the mayor asked students what they would do to make Chandler better answers, varied from “make the Chandler Mall bigger… to create a kids leader ship club.”
Students were excited and felt empowered to know they are making a difference!

Caine's Story
JGP, Jacobson Gifted Program’s winter engineering project is WRAPPING UP! Students are creating a playable arcade game made of cardboard. They will be going through the engineering design process as they construct their games. The engineering design process is broken into seven steps:
- Identify the problem
- Research
- Brainstorm ideas and solution
- Draw the design
- Build a prototype (the first working model)
- Test the prototype
- Evaluate and redesign/revise
The inspiration for this project came from Caine’s Arcade, which was created in east L.A. by a nine year-old boy named Caine. He spent the summer at his dad’s auto shop and decided to use empty boxes in the back of the store to create games. Caine ended up making an entire arcade and charged a couple dollars for other people to play. He didn’t get any customers for a very long time, but he kept waiting and making more games. Finally, he ended up with a customer. That customer spread the word, made a video about the arcade, and before long, it went viral!
In case you're curious, these videos share more about the Caine's Arcade story:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ul9c-4dX4Hk We showed this video to our little engineers. It's amazing that one creative 9 year-old kiddo could start something like this ~ and inspire all of us! 🙂
Recognition Assembelies
Congratulations to all Jacobson scholars, who received recognition at a fantastic flyer assemblies. Students are being recognized for being critical thinkers and students who persevere this month!

Dear Jacobson families, it is with a heavy heart that we share some sad news.
Our first-grade teacher Mrs. Cox’s young daughter is very sick and in Phoenix Children’s Hospital. She has been diagnosed with Leukemia. For that reason, Mrs. Cox will not be returning to Jacobson Elementary for quarter three. She needs to be with her child and family. Please keep Mrs. Cox and her little one in your hearts and thoughts.
- The Cox Family has created an Amazon wish list (link below). MANY items have already been purchased, but Nicole updates it when she thinks of new things that the family might need in the coming months. When you go to check out, Nicole’s (hidden) address will be one of your options for shipping. The item(s) will be shipped directly to her house. If you would like the family to know that your family purchased/sent the item(s), don't forget to mark the purchase as a "gift" and send a "gift message."

- Another way that you can support the family is to donate to their GoFundMe account. This account was set up by the Cox kids’ day care center. Donations made to this account will likely go towards medical expenses.
- If you would like to donate gift cards for groceries, Target, Amazon, restaurants, gas, you can drop those off in the front office with Aubrie Krausman. She will give them to the first-grade team to drop it off to her family. We will probably be making weekly deliveries for the time being.
- If you would like to make a cash donation directly to Nicole, her Venmo name is: @Nicole-Cox-99
Again, thank you for supporting Nicole and the Cox Family! You are appreciated! If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us.
With Gratitude,
The Jacobson First Grade Team

Have you ever thought about hosting a foreign exchange student?
Now is your chance! There are students from all over the world looking to experience High School in America and need a caring family to host while they experience everything America has to offer while also sharing their culture with you and your family! Students are fun, bright, helpful, and excited to be a part of a family home in America. They bring their own spending money and medical insurance, too! Please read through the flyer and contact Ms. Martin if you are interested or have any questions. Thank you!
