The Plot

Tonya Harding and her former Husband Jeff Gillooly plotted eliminate her rival Nancy Kerrigan. They had many ideas including hiring a sniper to shoot her, slicing her Achilles tendon, and running her car off a bridge.

What Happened

The controversy all started on January 6th 1994. Nancy kerrigan was attacked by an assailant wielding a metal baton. She was hit in the leg after practice, barely escaping from a destroyed knee cap. The hurt kerrigan was forced to the sidelines before the championship, allowing tonya harding to win. Before long, the beans spilled on what had actually happened. One of the accomplices, Shawn Eckhardt cracked under pressure, and admitted to the FBI what had happened. He said that Jeff Gillooly and others had made a plan to attack Kerrigan in order for Tonya Harding to win the championship. Gillooly drove and chased Kerrigan all around the country, by plane, bus, and car, finally tracking her down to Detroit where she was practicing in the Cobo Arena. He walked in, went through a curtain, swung at her right leg, and ran to the door at the end of the hall. Usually this door was unlocked, but today it was chained shut. In panic, he broke through the bottom and got away.

Later, Shawn Eckhardt admitted, along with Gillooly, until the FBI traced it back to Harding. She admitted that she knew about the plot, but she got away with no jail time. The other 4 men all got prison time. She was fined and kicked off of the Figure Skating Association of America for life.
