Colts Corner

January 2023

Principal's Perspective

Hello Muir families and welcome to Semester 2! It is hard to believe we are more than half way through the year. Enjoy scrolling through our latest Colts Corner to see all the great things happening at Muir. I am so proud of the work our staff is doing to ensure a great educational experience for our students. I am constantly blown away by the things our students do in the classroom, in clubs, teams and outside of school. Parents thank you for your continued support this year as well. We truly believe that we are at our best when we work together for our kids. As always we will strive to be Motivated, Understanding, Innovative and Relentless. We are MUIR!

7th and 8th Grade NJHS Students visit with local seniors

Muir 7th and 8th grade NJHS students spent time on Sunday, January 15th at the local Medilodge, providing arts and crafts for the residence. Students and residence enjoyed cookie decorating and button tree painting. All of the students were incredibly respectful and attentive to those that they worked with and very much enjoyed their conversation and time with their elders.

Huge Shout Out to Mr. Dvorin!

Mike Dvorin is a 7th and 8th grade science teacher at Muir, who does an amazing job making connections with his students. Mr. Dvorin comes in early and stays late. He works very hard to make sure students understand the curriculum. He goes above and beyond to help his students during his off hours. Mr. Dvorin is also a team player. Teachers can always count on him to sub during his conference hour when subs are not available. The most wonderful aspect of Mr. Dvorin that has been noticed this year is how he has made adjustments for his students with special needs. His daily communications with parents and teachers to ensure positive student learning has not gone unnoticed!

Thanks for being YOU, Mr. Dvorin.

6th Grade Concert Band was a Huge Success!

On Thursday, January 12th, the 6th grade Beginning Band performed their debut concert to a full house! This concert was as much as "informance" as a performance, and the audience was able to get a snapshot of what our semester has been like and what we have learned in a short 15 weeks of playing our instruments!

Congratulations on a very successful first performance and we are excited to present our final concert on Thursday, May 25th at the Milford HS Center for Performing Arts at 7pm.

Crafty Time

Ms. Ryan's 6th grade ELA Foundations class spent some time with Ms. Spellicy's class to create creatures or snowpersons as a fun interactive way to expand their imaginations. Ms. Ryan's students had to design, lesson plan, teach and trouble shoot for any possible problems that the other students may face while enjoying this activity. Great job to everyone involved!

8th Grade Theatre Class

8th Graders did an amazing job presenting their "A Crown Does Not A Princess Make" at MHS on Thursday, January 19th! It was very exciting to put the show all together and see the kids do a spectacular job in front of their friends and family members. A big shout out to Mrs. Doggett and all that she does to make these productions come to life!

Choir Concert

Congratulations to Ms. Gallagher and the Muir Choir students on an exceptional performance! Students performed on January 11th in the Milford High School Performing Arts stage and outdid themselves with several songs for each grade level to sing. A cumulating performance at the end brought all three grade levels together for a heartfelt final song.

Share the Warmth - Muir Winter Clothing Drive

Thank you to Jack, Audrina, Griffin, Olivia, Owen and Sam for creating and organizing the "Share the Warmth" clothing drive. These students, along with the support of Ms. Ryan and Ms. Pinter, put together a successful winter clothing drive to help those in need. Students and their parents delivered all the donated clothing to a shelter in Pontiac. We couldn't be more proud of these students! They are MUIR!

Dissections!

Science comes to life in Mrs. Sanborn and Mr. Dvorin classrooms! Students engage in learning about various body systems through heart dissections and frog dissections. While working together, students needed to carefully cut into the systems to identify different parts and the functions of each. Students gained a better understanding about how all systems work together to perform important tasks for the operation of the body as a whole. Well done!

December Colt Card Recipients

On January 6th, December Colt Card Recipients were treated to popsicles and gym time during their seminar class! We are always so proud of students who demonstrate our Muir motto of being Motivated, Understanding, Innovative, and Relentless! Students receive a Colt Card and then take it to the office where the staff congratulates them and allows them to choose from an assortment of treats! After that, the families receive an email telling them about this honor. Keep up the good work, Colts!

All State Honor Choir

Congratulations to Romy Gutierrez and Tia Beckman! Both girls participated in the All State Honors Choir at the Michigan Music Conference in Grand Rapids. Students from all across the state auditioned to be a part of this group. Great job, girls!

Off Campus Fun!

On January 20th, our 6th grade band students traveled away from Muir and enjoyed an evening of fun together with their families! Students enjoyed seeing the Blue Man Group and spending some time at Sparetime Entertainment. Everyone had a blast!

Classroom Auction and Golden Ticket Seminar!

The good times continue in Ms. Doggett's class! Kids enjoyed having their classroom auction and later the WEB leadership team held another fun Golden Ticket day filled with games and cookies! We love seeing the smiles and hearing the fun stories that are shared on these days.

Supply Drive

A big thank you to our Muir Families and community who helped to replenish some much needed supplies during this time! We appreciate all of you for helping to take care of restocking items so that all of our students have what they need to be successful!
