Principal's Message
Dear Sabre families,
It was definitely an ‘eerie’ May long weekend with the province blanketed in smoke and haze, but we hope everyone made the most of what they could do. We know that we have those in our Sabre community working the front line in keeping us safe and we extend our collective gratitude.
We are quickly approaching our next milestone and that is Graduation 2023 which is on June 3, 2023.
Each graduating class has unique characteristics that define them. This Graduating class of 2023 entered grade 10 at arguably the height of the pandemic and is the group that led us out, as we returned to ‘near normal’ conditions this past year.
They have gone through the full gamut of emotions and have unquestionably experienced a roller coaster of procedures and learning environments, while doing so with a ton of grace and class. A special group to celebrate indeed!
A few highlights to share before talking about further upcoming events.
First off, congratulations to Mrs. Lister, Mr. Enns, and Mrs. Fraser, along with the cast and crew of ‘Guys and Dolls’ for their amazing performances this past week. The kids absolutely ‘knocked it out of the park’.
Second, congratulations to Mr. Graves and our BAND students for capturing and being recognized by the Alberta Band Association for, and as I quote, the 'Superior Band Award', which is equivalent to a Provincial Championship at the senior high level.
Through tough times and challenges that the pandemic brought, Mr. Graves and his students never wavered. This past week, they were rewarded by their hard work and commitment to excellence.
It has been 30 years since our BAND program has achieved this and again, what a wonderful and amazing accomplishment for our Sabres.

On the facilities side of things, we are excited to hear an update on our gender neutral washrooms. Barring any unforeseen issues, the work will commence and be completed on the weekend June 17-18 and be operational for our last week of final exams.
This week brings us to our final School Council meeting for the 2022 - 2023 school year. The staff and students would like to extend our appreciation to Jacquie Surgenor, who has served as our School Council Chair for the last number of years and is stepping away next year as her child is graduating. She has been a huge supporter, not just by her presence but more importantly for her wisdom and commitment to our community.
On behalf of all of us, thank you Jacquie!
Also, please remember to check your student account in the PowerSchool Parent Portal. Many additional fees have been recently added for field trips and spring athletics. We also have a small number of 2022-2023 Yearbooks still available to order/purchase through the parent portal.
Thank you and have a good week.
