The white-nosed coati, also known as "coatimundi" it is a member of the raccoon family, Its body it 1.5 -2 feet long and its tail is 2 feet long. They are native to Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Central America, and Columbia.. They are protected by Texas and New Mexico because they are considered an endangered species.
Threats and causes of extinction , courses of action and successes.
Globally they are classified as "least concern" . Causes of decline in population is habitat loss and illegal poaching for their fur or for food . Laws have been passed and they are given total protection from being hunted or trapped. They are also protected by Texas wildlife parks.
They inhabit wooded areas , mostly dry and most forests. They can climb trees very easily but are most often found on the ground.
They are ominovores and prefer small vertebrates , fruits, carrion, insects, snakes, and eggs. Their predators are boas, raptors.
Males are much larger than females and weigh about 4-6 kg. Their tails makes up about half of their length. Their tales are used to give them balance. They are very intelligent and can be tamed easily.
