Dear Boone Meadow Families
We have so much to be grateful for...
As I consider the people that stand shoulder to shoulder in this Boone Meadow community, I am grateful for the families that partner with us, the teachers and staff that give their best to the cause, and students that come to this environment ready to learn and contribute. I am thankful for this space and the people within it.
A few items:
Sweatshirts and Sweatpants - Let's get cozy before our Thanksgiving break and wear our sweatshirt and sweatpants or joggers to school on Tuesday. Elastic waistbands are our friends this time of year!
Warm coats on cold days...(Lost and Found) - To help make our lost and found items more visible and accessible to guests, we've temporarily relocated our lost and found items to the front lobby through Monday, 11/28. After that date, we will be starting our lost and found afresh and will donate unclaimed items to a local charity.
PTO Holiday Flower Sale - Today is the last day to purchase your holiday flowers from the Boone Meadow Elementary Parent Teacher Organization. A portion of every sale goes to the BME PTO, which directly benefits the students, teachers, and staff. The last day to order is Friday, November 18, 2022. You will be able to pick up your purchases on December 2nd from 3:30 - 5:30 pm at the front entrance of Boone Meadow Elementary. (See information below)
Scholastic Book Fair was a success! Today was the last day for the fair, and it will be packed up in the coming days. Thank you to all our volunteers that helped to make it happen.
We have so much to be grateful for...
Together,
Tom Hundley, Principal
Adopt Team Meadow
It’s the holiday season! We know everyone wants to give gifts to all the grown-ups in our kiddos’ lives who are making a difference – our incredible teachers, support staff, bus drivers, counselors, and leaders at BME. Over the last few years, BME PTO has developed a program called “Operation Adopt Team Meadow” where one person can “adopt” someone at BME, then collect donations from other parents to purchase gifts for that someone! We call this person the “gift coordinator!”
You can participate in Adopt Team Meadow by becoming a gift coordinator OR by donating money to the gift coordinators. This is a way for all of us to donate *small* amounts to multiple BME team members - like your students’ teachers (including their special classes), their bus drivers, Nurse Amy, and even Principal Hundley!
Currently – we are in the adoption phase of the event. Please view this list and, if you can, sign-up to be the gift coordinator for a BME team member. There are still a lot of spots open! We will provide all gift coordinators with a list of “favorite things,” so it makes the gift decisions easier!
Stay tuned for more information on contributing to the gift coordinators, so you can spread the joy even farther this holiday season. Cheers!
ZCHS Student Council Rummage Sale (12/3)
The ZCHS Student Council is hosting a community rummage sale Saturday, December 3 in the ZCHS main cafeteria 8 am - 4 pm. Proceeds benefit "The Book Project" and "The Diaper Bank," which provide books and diapers to underprivileged children in our area. We will also be sharing proceeds with "To Write Love on Her Arms," which supports individuals needing mental health care for depression, anxiety, and addiction.
Donations for the sale have come from many generous community members and include everything from designer clothing new with tags to baseball bats, Coach bags to assorted housewares, and much, much more. Items will go quickly!
Follow yard signs to the ZCHS parking lot off of Hal Sharpe Rd, and join us for many great deals. Kroger, Lowe's, and Meijer are even loaning us shopping carts for your shopping convenience. We hope you will join us to benefit these worthy charities!
Cash and credit cards will be accepted.
Recess Reminder
Indiana weather is known for its rapid changes and we have certainly already seen that this year! As the weather turns colder, students will need to come to school with their winter coats, hats, and gloves. Snow pants, waterproof boots, warm gloves/mittens are required to be able to play in the snow. Please reach out to our counselor, Mrs. Sloan, if you are in need of assistance to obtain cold weather gear. All children play outside except on rainy, icy, or very cold days (wind chill below the 10-20 degree range). Inside recess will be held on those exceptional days.

Lunch Guest Sign Ups
Lunch Guests
We are ready to welcome lunch guests! Students and their guests will have lunch at designated locations in the front lobby area. Please no more than 2 guests per student due to limited space. As we implement this new system/procedure, we will limit availability one more week to Monday, Wednesday, and Friday visits.
Here's how it works:
- Sign up for a reservation in advance using this link: https://outlook.office365.com/owa/calendar/BMELunchSchedule@zcsk12in.onmicrosoft.com/bookings/ When you sign up, please be certain to complete all fields requested.
- Be sure to notify your child's teacher so they are informed to send your child to the front lobby to meet you/guest during their scheduled lunch time.
- Bring a photo ID and arrive 5 minutes early (lunch times are listed on the signup form link above).
- Your child will meet you in the front office area when they are ready.

School Safety: Visitors & Volunteers Background Checks
When volunteers are needed and approved, appropriate staff members will reach out to you in effort to welcome your support and assistance.
If you plan to volunteer or visit in the future, please note the following information.
Click here for information regarding required Background Checks for volunteers: ZCS Volunteer Background Check
CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECKS FOR VOLUNTEERS
We value partnerships with our families and welcome parents and guardians to serve as volunteers in our schools. Each ZCS building typically offers a wide variety of volunteer opportunities. If you plan to assist as chaperones or engage with children in a volunteer capacity, we strongly recommend getting a criminal background check completed well in advance to have on file.
Examples include:
- Field Trip Chaperones
- Out of Town/Overnight Chaperones
- Tutors
- Volunteer Coaches
- Classroom Helpers (PTO parties/room parents)
- Library Helpers
- After Prom Workers
- Field Day/Jog-A-Thon Volunteers
- Book Fair Sales/Athletic Ticket Sales
During the school day, all volunteers are expected to sign in at the front office. Prior to the volunteer opportunity, all volunteers must sign a Non-disclosure Acknowledgement Form and have successfully completed a Full Criminal History Background Check. Volunteers must also view the state mandated confidentiality/bullying video, provided on the Volunteer/BRAVO website.
CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECKS FOR VISITORS
During the school day, all visitors must enter via the front door and sign-in at the front office. Visitors need to be prepared to present a government issued photo ID which will be scanned against the National Sex Offender Registry. All visitors will be issued a visitor badge/tag to be worn inside the building at all times.
Examples Include:
- Lunch Guests
- Classroom Guest Speakers
- Classroom Special Events (Grandparent Day/Famous Hoosiers/etc.)
- Parent/Teacher Conferences
*ZCS thanks all volunteers for generous support of our youth and schools. Thank you, too, for supporting assurance of student and staff safety by completing and paying for a volunteer background check.
