February 2023
Happy February to our Mill Pond Families!
We have certainly hit the ground running since January and are continuing this month as we progress towards spring and the end of the year.
Depending on who you believe, the groundhog saw his shadow, which means another 6 weeks of winter weather. Outside of this weekend, I will take the mild temperatures of 50 or more degrees! The beginning of this week has a few days of mild weather in the 50s, so the students will be heading out to recess. Talk to your child about appropriate clothes. Thank you!
Speaking of appropriate clothes, we ask you to have your students double check the shoes they are wearing to school. Sneakers are the safest bet! Between recess and gym, sneakers are the best way to stay safe. Many students are wearing Crocs, which is fine as long as they are in sport mode. The strap needs to be across the back heel area. Athletic slides with no back are not to be worn at school, even if they are wearing socks.
Students at Mill Pond are fortunate enough to have a Chromebook exclusively to themselves as we are one-to-one this year. Your child will need headphones for independent work, especially in music class. This month, all classes will be using a program on their Chromebooks to create songs. Mr. Lieghty only has a few pairs of headphones to lend out that can be cleaned between each use.
We are joining together as a community to bring awareness to the Kids Heart Healthy Challenge. 6th grader, Zoey and I will be putting out a Mill Pond Public Service Announcement this week. Zoey is a heart ambassador for the Kids Heart Challenge. Students will participate in an assembly this week and then have the opportunity to participate in a Mill Pond community event. The Kids Heart Challenge Family Night will be Friday, February 24th from 6-8 pm.
The classroom and hallways are a buzz with activity. It is a hum we are happy to hear!
Once again, we appreciate all you do at home to help the students arrive on time and ready to learn!
Go Lions!
