Twin Oaks Elementary
March 28, 2022
Dear Twin Oaks Families,
Sleep in Heavenly Peace Volunteer Opportunity: Sleep in Heavenly Peace is a national non-profit organization committed to providing safe, comfortable places for children to lay their head. Too many boys and girls throughout the world go without a bed and end up sleeping on couches, blankets or the floor. Many would be surprised how many children in our own community do not have a bed to sleep on or pillows and bedding. There is an active, strong local Sleep in Heavenly Peace chapter that build beds for children in Eugene, Springfield and the surrounding communities. I am proud to be a part of this amazing organization. We have scheduled a "build" on Saturday, April 2nd at Twin Oaks Elementary. During the build days we construct the bed pieces. We cut, sand and stain boards to create bed "kits". Our hope is to include our Twin Oaks community with this project. If you have a couple of hours available Saturday morning we would love to have your help. The flyer below has registration information and details about the build.
Read-A-Thon 2022: The Read-A-Thon continues until Thursday. We are very close to meeting our goals. The students have earned $3918 and have recorded 30,500 minutes read. If we meet the funding goal we will be purchasing an Inchy's Bookworm Vending Machine. If we meet the goal for minutes read, the students get to vote to determine if I am going to kiss a pig or get green slimed! I will do almost anything for this school! If you have friends and family who are still interested in sponsoring your child and supporting our school they can go to http://pledgestar.com/twinoaks.
Kindergarten Information Night: On Tuesday, April 5th at 6:00pm we will be hosting our Twin Oaks Elementary Kindergarten Information Night via Zoom. If you have an incoming Kindergartener please join us. If you have a friend or neighbor with a Kindergarten aged child we would appreciate it if you would share this information with them. Click here for the Zoom link.
EEF Grant Awarded: We are very excited to share that the Eugene Education Foundation awarded Twin Oaks Elementary $2,250 to purchase new books for our school library. With our grant we will be purchasing approximately 250 books with the goal of making our library more culturally responsive and rich in diversity. We appreciate the support of EEF and all who donate to this foundation.
Wishing you a beautiful week of sunny Spring weather!

EEF AWARDS GRANT TO TWIN OAKS!
Eugene Education Foundation’s Board of Directors approved Twin Oaks grant proposal for $2,250 for Celebrate Diversity with Culturally Responsive Literature in our Library.
We are making our library more culturally responsive and rich in diversity. We want to send a clear message to our students and their families that “Twin Oaks values, welcomes, respects and includes everyone.”When our students see themselves reflected in their library books, they will want to spend more time browsing for books, checking out items and reading at school and at home. Student engagement and access to learning will be improved by updating our books, and giving access to hundreds of culturally appropriate, and equity conscious titles. Students will be genuinely excited about reading when they can find books in their own school library that reflect their culture, their heritage, their unique abilities and their likeness.
This grant support is in addition to donor-earmarked gifts for Twin Oaks Elementary through EEF, thanks to the support of community businesses and individuals who see the value in public education.
Some of our dreams remain unfulfilled here at Twin Oaks Elementary. If you have not already made a gift this year, would you consider doing so now? Make your check payable to “Twin Oaks Elementary/EEF” and mail it to Eugene Education Foundation, P.O. Box 1015, Eugene, Oregon 97440. You can also contribute by credit card or monthly bank transfers. For more information go to https://eeflane.org or call 541-790-7744.
