The Gift of Positivity and How to Activate Growth Mindset

We've sure been handed some crazy days lately, and our lens of view can get clouded with negativity when life appears to be getting out of control. Here are some activities that will help students gain a bit of positive perspective and hope in times of trials and struggles.


Khan Academy We have used Khan Academy's amazing resources for all sorts of subject matter extensions, but did you know they have activities for students on developing a growth mindset as well? These resources are broken up into elementary/middle school and high school to capture different abilities/difficulties across grade levels	Accidental Inventions As adults, we know that making mistakes is a natural/fundamental part of the learning process. As a learner, these setbacks can be devastating. However, so many of the most successful inventions we use on a daily basis came to fruition through "Mistakes that Worked". In this Accidental Invention activity, students will select an invention and research how it came to be. Seeing first hand how success comes from failure can be an eye opening experience.	Famous Failures In addition to Accidental Inventions, an equally inspiring journey for students is to research Famous Failures. These are individuals that overcame many obstacles in life to ultimately achieve greatness. (The list in the link above may surprise you...think Albert Einstein, Abraham Lincoln, Elvis Presley, Walt Disney, Michael Jordan, Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, Steven Spielberg and even J.K. Rowling, just to name a few.)
