Principal Update
Next week is American Education Week! The first observance of American Education Week occurred December 4-10, 1921, with the NEA and American Legion as the cosponsors. Now, American Education Week happens the week prior to the week of Thanksgiving. Each day of the week has its own theme, during which we celebrate our public school community. Festivities honor the team of people who work in our nation’s public schools, everyone from the bus driver and classroom teacher to the cafeteria worker and administrative staff, plus countless others.
Monday November 13th is our kick-off day! This will be highlighted in our morning announcements with some reflection questions for students. You could have them respond to me, write on a piece of paper their thoughts, or even just discuss!
- What would I do if I were the school principal?
- What do I like best about my school?
Tuesday November 14th is family day! We will have apple cut outs for classrooms to use if they choose. Students can write their name and favorite subject or thing to learn at school, best time of day, or what they like best about school. These can go home to families, then parents can write in the other space their favorite memories of school and return! We will put up in the building.
Wednesday November 15th is Educational Support Specialists day! This includes our office staff, custodial staff, nutrition staff, health staff, paraeducator staff, supervision staff, and campus safety staff! We will have some highlights of our teams. You can consider having students write letters or cards showing appreciation!
Thursday November 16th is Educator for a Day! In the morning announcements, students will be asked to reflect on a future career they may enjoy and that profession's role in the community.
Friday November 17th is Substitute Educators Day! We are so lucky to have so many wonderful substitute teachers supporting us at Moran and in all schools. We will have a school-wide recognition in the morning announcements!
Ongoing Reminders
- Chocolate milk update! Due to the national cardboard shortage, SPS is unable to order chocolate milk for the foreseeable future. We currently have some left, and as that runs out we will not be able to order more at this time.
- It's getting colder and colder! In addition to sending students to school with appropriate clothing for being outside, we are also in the season of possible school closures or delays. To learn more about the process and how this is communicated, visit the district webpage here.
- Need a winter coat for your student or siblings? Let Mrs. Lorimer know!
- Wondering when to keep your sick student home? Find information and recommendations at the district webpage here.
Interested in running an after-school club? Parents and/or community members who run afterschool programs are hired and paid for their time. Let Ms. Hellenthal know what kind of club you want to run (follow your passions!) and we'll get you set up!
- Thank you for continuing to park in other spots in the lot rather than in our bus and Zum zones. We appreciate your attention to this!
- Please continue to provide input on our school community and your hopes for our students using this survey: Survey for families and students.
