Dear Dragon Family -- I hope this email finds you doing well! I would be remiss if I didn’t take this opportunity to say THANK YOU for the donations to the Direct Investment Fund. It is through consistent generosity like yours that allows Deretchin Elementary to accomplish the amazing things that we do each year with our students. I want you to know we are grateful for your partnership—without your financial gifts, it wouldn’t be possible. With Great Appreciation -- Alicia Reeves, Principal

Annonymous Alerts

Our campus will be utilizing the Anonymous Alerts app designed to allow students, or anyone, inform our campus administration of any safety concern during the 2019-2020 school year. This app will allow any completely anonymous upstander and an administrator to engage in completely anonymous two-way confidential ongoing communication regarding an issue. The app can be downloaded either at the Google Play store for Android or Apple store for iOS.
Note the important following information to use when utilizing the app:
· Login/Password– conroeisd
For a complete overview of Anonymous Alerts and how it works, please view the following video on YouTube-
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ksC8TIJCwjc&feature=youtu.be
Please be aware 1-888-KIDCHAT will still be available. Anonymous Alerts is preferable as the app allows two-way anonymous exchange of tip information.
Lastly, we will reiterate to students constantly the importance and availability to come directly to an administrator with any concerns. Your assistance in reiterating this is much appreciated.
Deretchin Parent Book Study Begins Soon!
“The 7 Healthy Habits of Highly Effective Families” Parent Book Study
This year, our parent book study is from the NY Times bestseller, Stephen R. Covey, “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Families”. This book is for all of us who are commited to creating a strong family culture in the world we face today. These principles are applicable for families in any stage of life! We hope you will join us! Books can be purchased in hardback or paperback copies on Amazon.
We will meet on the following dates:
Session 1: October 1 - 9:30am / Intro - Habit #2
Session 2: November 6- 9:30am / Habit #3-5
Session 3: January 16 - 9:30am / Habit #6-7

Kelso's Choices - Grades K-2

This year, we are implementing a powerful new conflict resolution management program entitled, “Kelso’s Choices”.
The lessons feature a frog named “Kelso” (and his friend “Lily”) who walks students through the minor conflict management choices for “small” problems and encourages them to always go to a trusted adult if the come across a “Big” problem.
Kelso shares 9 ways to solve small problems:
1. Go to another game/activity.
2. Talk it over and listen to each other.
3. Walk away from the problem.
4. Ignore the problem behavior.
5. Tell the person to stop the problem behavior.
6. Apologize.
7. Make a deal or compromise.
8. Wait to cool off.
9. Share and take turns.
During guidance lessons, students are not only learning key words and concepts about resolving conflict, but will be identifying and role playing these strategies as well. Teachers are also integrating the common language and strategies in their classrooms throughout the day.
