Tonya Middling - Principal
Kristin Hillius - Assistant Principal
Dear Parents and Families,
This month, we've been focused on advancing student thinking through writing in all subjects and grades. Our leadership team is reading The Writing Revolution by Doug Lemov which provides strategies that can be easily integrated with our curriculum. This is an area of our school improvement plan, considering the discrepancies we've noticed in our students writing abilities.
I am grateful to our staff for their commitment to focus on continuous learning as educators. Our landscape continues to shift and we have to ensure we prepare ourselves for the needs at hand. Writing requires higher order thinking skills and our explicit focus will help support students to meet year end grade level writing standards.
Here are some ways you can support your child at home with their writing:
- Provide a place for your child to write;
- Encourage your child to keep a reflective journal
- Have your child make birthday cards or shopping lists;
- Help your child write an alphabet letter, then go letter hunting in your house!
We are Better Together! It's great to be a Wildcat!
Mrs. Middling

FALL WEATHER IS HERE!
We are enjoying our beautiful Fall weather which means that mornings can be cooler. It is also important to remember that students go outside for recess rain or shine. Be sure to send your child to school dressed for the weather. Please take a moment to label outer-wear with a permanent marker in case it is misplaced.
Parties!
DISTRICT POLICY REGARDING PARTIES - Classrooms may have celebrations. If you plan on having snacks, COVID Safety guidelines MUST be followed:
- ALL snacks MUST be store bought
- ALL snacks MUST be individually wrapped
Arrival & Dismissal
Our parent drop-off and pick-up area is off of Bingham in our back parking lot. IMPORTANT: To avoid blocking traffic on Bingham, we ask that if cars are backed up at the entrance to our parking lot that you continue to drive down Bingham (southbound) and turnaround to get in line so we don’t hold our busses up who will need to come onto Bingham to get into our bus circle. Please be mindful of driveways by leaving space for their owner to get out without having to wait. It is recommended that families arrive for pick-up as close to 4:05pm as possible. Thank you!
BUS PROCEDURES
We have a very helpful transportation department; if you have any questions, issues about something that happened on the bus or at the bus stop, or concerns about a late bus, please call the transportation office directly at 253-298-3865.
SPYA IS BACK!
After over a year, the Summit-Parkland Youth Association is back! The district will be partnering with SPYA to offer recreational sports to Franklin Pierce students in grades K-6. Basketball is just around the corner - the season will be Nov. 15-Feb. 18. Registration is open! SPYA is also in need of coaches and referees. If you would like more information please call 253.298.3019.
EMERGENCY DRILLS
As you know, we are required to conduct emergency drills throughout the school year. We do this in an effort to prepare students as best we can for what to do in the event of an emergency. Even though we tell students that the activity is a drill, it can still be scary for some students. If students come home talking about a drill (fire, earthquake, lockdown, or other) please remind them how important it is to practice these so that we can all be safe. Families will always be notified in the event of an actual emergency. Thanks for your help with this!
