Tuesday Night Showcase for 8th Graders

Tuesday and Thursday morning, Petaluma High will welcome current 8th graders from all over town to check out our school. Link Crew and BSA students will lead these students on targeted tours of the campus and show them why PHS is the place to be.

Tuesday evening, November 14th, PHS puts on our Petaluma High Showcase 9th Grade Preview, inviting parents of 8th graders to see for themselves what PHS has to offer. This evening starts in the gym at 6pm. It is not meant for current parents and students but anyone is welcome to come if you'd like.

For all of you, please read on for the latest PHS news. On behalf of all of us at Petaluma High, we wish you a happy Thanksgiving Break.

Trojans Fight Hard But Eventually Fall to Acalanes

The Trojans went on the road and proved they belonged in the very tough Division 3 NCS playoffs last Friday evening. Cheered on by a boisterous PHS cheering section, the Trojans moved the ball throughout the contest. At halftime, the Trojans trailed 28-17. After forcing an early second half turnover, the Trojans had the ball at the Acalanes 38 yard line but could not sustain the drive. After an Acalanes score, the Trojans battled back with a long and productive drive followed by a two point conversion, closing to 35-25 as the 3rd quarter wound down.

Unfortunately, the fourth quarter didn't go the Trojans way. Two costly turnovers were converted to Acalanes points and the Trojans weren't able to close any further. The final score was in no way representative of the Trojans' play on the field. A few plays here and there and things might have been different.

All in all, an excellent season for the Trojans (8-2). We will lose some talented seniors to graduation but the current junior class will be ready to pick up this season next fall on the newly minted Ellison Field. Go Trojans!

LCAP Surveys - Please Help!

The LCAP Survey is an important piece of the local indicators that are required for the new dashboard-school accountability system.

The survey will be open until Thursday, Nov. 30, 2017. We would like to have as many parents/guardians as possible participate in the survey. The survey is available in both English and Spanish. The survey is also on the PCS website. There are hard copies in the office if you prefer or just click on the links below.

We also need your help in another way. We are looking for two or three PHS parents to represent the school on the LCAP committee. The next meeting is December 5th at the district office. This is important and will ensure PHS has a voice in spending decisions and oversight. Please email directly if interested.

JSA Goes to Fall State

The Petaluma High JSA chapter brought 18 students to the Northern California JSA Fall State in Santa Clara last weekend. Along with teachers Mr. Dawsari and Ms. Lounibos, the students had an enjoyable two day overnight convention debating, interacting with students across the state, discussing political and current event issues, and having fun activities with friends in the chapter and across the state. Talluah Leftkowitz won a best speaker gavel award for her fantastic debating. Overall all the students left happy, tired, more informed and inspired politically, and excited to go to more JSA conventions in the future.
