Mrs. Hicks's English Class
What's Been Going On?
Fourth quarter is well underway, and we've done a lot in class! This letter will keep you up to date on what we've been up to, as well as what's coming up!
Research Project
The class started on an individual research project a while ago, with each student selecting a novel and picking out a topic found in it that can be applied to society today. Students interviewed people on their topic, researched and wrote an essay on their selected topic. They have done revisions with peers and teacher, conferences, and used a writing website to analyze their work. Students even got to create a blog and share information with students from another school.

Julius Caesar
This week the class started reading Shakespeare's play Julius Caesar. Before reading the book, everyone did a web quest on Google Presentation. Students are assigned character parts to read to the rest of the class, and simplified and translated notes are taken after certain chunks are read. Once the class finishes reading the play, we will watch the movie. Weekly activities on the reading are done in groups in class.
