Nurse's News

Welcome Back!

Dear Bobcat Families,

Welcome to the 2022-2023 school year! I am Jennifer Robinson, and I serve as your child's School Nurse. I have been a School Nurse for nearly 10 years and I really love what I do. Please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions you have regarding health or safety. I look forward to working with you and doing my part to ensure that your child has a successful school year. Please review the important information outlined below.
Big picture

When should my child stay home from school?

In an effort to help protect well children from unnecessary exposure to contagious or infectious diseases, South Carolina requires that children and staff with certain illnesses and conditions stay home from school or childcare while contagious. DHEC publishes and regularly updates the School and Childcare Exclusion List. The Exclusion List explains how long ill children and staff must stay out of school or childcare and what documentation needs to be provided before the child or employee is permitted to return.

On the first day of school, your child will bring home a parent brochure that summarizes the important information from this list. Please keep it handy and refer to it as necessary. Let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Immunization Requirements

In order for children to attend school or childcare in South Carolina, they must be up-to-date on their immunizations. Please be sure to turn in your child's valid South Carolina Certificate of Immunization as soon as possible, as non-compliance will result in exclusion from school. If you need help getting your child vaccinated, please let me know and I will refer you to SC DHEC or another Vaccines for Children (VFC) provider.

Student Health Information

Your child will bring home a (yellow) Confidential Health Questionnaire on the first day of school. Please complete it and return it to school the next day. It is very important that I receive this form as soon as possible so that I can keep your child safe while he or she is in our care. Be sure to complete both sides of the form and sign it.

Please remember to let me know if your contact information changes, as I must be able to reach you during the school day in case of an emergency.

Vision and Hearing Screenings

In accordance with SC DHEC recommendations, I will conduct student vision and hearing screenings this Fall. This year, screening requires a signed consent form. The form will come home with your child on the first day of school; please sign and return it as soon as possible. When screening is complete, I will contact you if further examination is required. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Medication Forms

Please contact me if your child requires medication at school. All medication must be provided in its original, labeled container. Emergency medications, such as asthma inhalers and EpiPens, should be brought to school on your child's first day or as soon as possible thereafter.

Medication forms can be found by clicking on the links below. Prescription medications are prescribed by a health care provider to a specific patient for a specific reason. Non-prescription (over-the-counter) medications can be purchased at a pharmacy; they require parental permission to be administered in the school setting. All medications must be provided by a child's parent or guardian; the school does not stock any medications for general use.

Dental Access Carolina, LLC

We will partner with Dental Access Carolina (AKA "the dental van") again this year. It was tremendously successful last year, and I hope to have even more involvement going forward. Your child will bring home an information sheet and consent form about the program on the first day of school. Please review it, complete the form, and return it to me as soon as you can. Dental Access takes most insurance, including Blue Cross Blue Shield, Medicaid, and Delta Dental.

If you do not want your child to participate in the program, just check No on the form and sign it.
