March 2022
A Note from the Principal
Spring is on the horizon, and we are looking forward to an exciting last 3 months of school! Below you will notice that spring testing begins in March. As required by the Alabama Literacy Act, all students will take our screener, iReady, on March 21st and 22nd. All students in grades 2-4 will also take the ACAP state assessment on April 12, 26, & 28th. It is imperative that students be at school and on time on for these assessments. We value gathering data on each student at Forest Hills so that we can best meet students' learning needs and also celebrate their growth and achievement. Please know that these assessments are required by our state and absences will not be pre-approved for these dates. You can support your child during testing by doing the following:
- ensure an appropriate bedtime the night before
- arrive to school early enough so your child can eat breakfast, or provide a healthy breakfast at home
- encourage your child with positive comments and words of support
Should you have any further questions about testing, please contact your child's teacher. I am SO proud of our students and teachers and all of the hard work they've poured into this year!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Fowler, Principal

Jump Rope
This month we have focused on our heart! What better way to keep our hearts healthy than to jump rope!! Jumping rope is great exercise and is also a lot of fun! We have covered everything from basic rope jumping, to partner skills and our 2-4th graders even had a chance to try double dutch. Our jump rope unit ended with our Kids Heart Challenge glow/jump party! We "glowed", danced, jumped and of course had a popcorn snack all to raise money and awareness for the American Heart Association. We are currently in the process of totaling donations so watch for our grand total coming soon!
If you child collected and turned in donations (either at school or online), they should have already received their instant prizes and will be receiving the remainder of their prizes (jump ropes, t-shirts, etc) very soon.
Coming in March
Spring testing will begin the first week in March and will continue until all 2-4th grade students have completed testing in all four fitness areas - this should end around Spring Break. Your child will test in push-ups to measure muscular strength, sit-ups to measure muscular endurance, sit-and-reach to measure flexibility and either the mile run or Pacer test to measure cardiovascular endurance.
