Panther Post
Oct. 1st - Oct. 6th
Hello Lopez Families,
Our 2018 Pantherama is coming up this month and it is going to be fun! Please see the flyer below. I hope all can attend.
Don't forget about our fundraiser. The Panther Challenge will be in February but we need the sponsors now so they can get their logos on the shirts. Attachments below.
Our athletics continue to impress with huge wins in football and volleyball. I love going to see them and I can't wait for the other extra-curricular events as well. If you haven't been to see them, you should really go check out our kids. They make us so proud!
I know this post is long with a ton of sections but it is laid out nicely where you can scroll quickly and see if anything pertains to you. Don't miss something good!
Sincerely,
Mr. Wernli

LEAD CONNECTION
Lead Connection-Talking points with your Tween/Teen
Habit 1: Be Proactive. “This is the beginning of another school year, three weeks in. As we go throughout this year, you will have a lot of choices to make. The choices you make can be reactive or proactive. It is about taking responsibility for your life. In any given day, less than ideal things can happen. You are waiting for the school bus and your new clothes get covered in the muddy water that the bus just splashed on them, your brother took your earbuds, the ice-cream store down the street was out of your favorite ice cream. Being proactive (versus being reactive) means understanding that you’re in control of you and you choose how you will act during a particular situation (and nothing else- things you cannot control… i.e. bus splashing mud, your earbuds taken by your brother, ice-cream store out of ice cream). How would you act during one of these instances? Are you going to “blow your top” or remain cool?
Another example- Proactive –You read your summer reading assignment a month before school starts each day to keep up with your reading. Reactive – You stay up all night and the weekend before school starts reading your literature book. Which are you practicing? Being Proactive or Reactive. Proactive decisions cause less stress, are well planned out, and help you to be successful. Reactive decisions cause stress, are last minute thoughts, and can cause you to fail. This year we want you to be successful, set goals, plan ahead, and most importantly – Be Proactive.
Reactive Learner: Accepts things as they are. Waits to be taught. Functions in negative habit. Defends their position. Does Enough.
Proactive Learner: Asks Questions. Seeks learning opportunities. Functions mindfully. Appreciates others’ positions. Goes the extra mile.
Sharpen the Saw:
Dear Lopez Families,
As we say hello to our 2018 school year, it is good to reflect on what we did over the summer to reward ourselves; Sharpen the Saw. Won’t you please share your experiences with our Lopez family of how you have sharpened your saw this past summer by sending family or individual photos of events you attended, vacations you enjoyed, or maybe you sat back and read a book .
Please share your photos by emailing them to Mr. Toback at ftobac@neisd.net or by bringing developed pictures to Lopez Middle School. The pictures can be grayscale or color. They will be displayed inside the school for all to enjoy. (they will not be returned)
Everyone Has genius:
Dear Lopez Families
Celebrating each other achievements is rewarding. Lopez Middle School dedicates a display celebrating student genius. If your child is involved in something outside of school, we would love to celebrate with them and share with others. Please send in a picture of your child participating in the activity and we will add it to our display. Ex. Karate, charity work-volunteering, horseback riding, mountain biking, gymnastics.
