Meadow Park News

Principal's Corner
Hello Meadow Park Families,
This week, school and district report cards for the 17-18 school year were made available. They can be found on the ODE website at http://www.ode.state.or.us/data/reportcard/reports.aspx. (Select Beaverton in the District Selection drop-down menu). I welcome the opportunity to share this information with you on the progress we are making to improve academic achievement for each student in the District. We are making progress.
State report cards began fifteen years ago when the 1999 Oregon Legislature passed a law requiring every public school and district to receive a report from the Oregon Department of Education about how they are performing overall. The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), signed by President Obama on December 10, 2015, replaces the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act and affords states greater flexibility. ESSA encourages schools and educators to innovate and create systems that address local needs. As a part of this work, the Oregon Department of Education redesigned the School and District report cards to engage and inform families about their school’s approach to learning, academic and extracurricular offerings, and student performance. Reports cards also serve as an important tool for continuous improvement planning by local and state policymakers, in conjunction with the communities they serve.
At Meadow Park, WE are committed to using this information to help tailor our school improvement plans and academic programs to meet the needs of every student. During the year I will continue to communicate with you frequently about student achievement and programs in place at our school to foster student learning and success.
If you have questions about our report card, please contact me. You may also have suggestions for improvements. Please share them! Thank you!
Let's make it a great week!

During the third week of November, all Beaverton 8th grade students will take the PSAT 8/9. Meadow Park’s testing day that week is November 14th and will include a modified scheduled.
The PSAT 8/9 is an assessment given to eighth-graders that is closely aligned to the SAT®, PSAT/NMSQT®, and PSAT™ 10. It consists of questions in Evidence-Based Reading, Writing and in Math. It helps establish a baseline for students as they enter high school and begin preparing for college and career opportunities.
Your child’s score reports will be available toward the end of January.

We want to hear from YOU!
Every five years, authorized Middle Years Programme (MYP) schools go through a program evaluation. The International Baccalaureate (IB) program expects authorized schools to continue developing the programme to meet all IB standards and practices. Near the end of each five year evaluation cycle, IB conducts a school visit and provides the school with a report which is then used to refine the school’s action plan.
Meadow Park is currently in our evaluation year and we are preparing for our IB school visit occurring April 11-12 2019. As part of this evaluation cycle, each IB school engages in a self-study, which involves all stakeholders and helps to measure the school’s level of implementation of IB Standards and Practices. The self-study is an opportunity for Meadow Park to reflect on all aspects of MYP. Additionally, the self-study helps the school community identify strengths and areas that require improvement. The self-study as a whole provides a framework for reflection and helps support our staff in refining and sustaining the MYP program at Meadow Park.
It is vital to Meadow Park’s self-study to engage with our community and include your feedback in our reflection and action plan. Your participation is much appreciated and I hope that you will take the time to complete this short survey by Wednesday, Nov 7, 2018. To complete the parent survey please click the Link
Meadow Park students will have an opportunity to contribute their feedback through a survey in advisory next week.
