Miss Brown's Bulletin
Week of August 31-September 4
Leader of the Month
Each month we are asked to choose a child in the classroom who has showed exceptional leadership. This month that person is....(drum roll please)...MADI GROVES! Madi shows awesome leadership in multiple ways. She is always prepared for class each day, she shows kindness to everyone in the room, she's always putting first things first and giving 100% each day, she never gives up and isn't afraid to ask questions, and this is just to name a few.
Madi is an awesome classmate and an outstanding leader. Keep up the great work!
Minds in Motion
Minds in Motion will begin on Monday. Students are expected to go to the gym prior to the announcements to complete the stations. Once they are finished ,they will return to class. It should take no more than 10 minutes to run through all of the stations. It closes as 7:45 a.m., so if you arrive after this time you will not me able to attend.

Friday Notebooks
Just a friendly reminder that a form of communication we will use throughout the year is the Friday Notebook. In the flip book that came home at Ready Fair, or day 1 of school if you were unable to attend, there was a quick review of what it is and why we do it. This is also listed on the notebook as well.
Basically every Friday we will take 10 minutes to write to a loved one about their week at school. They may share what they learned, different experiences and feelings, etc. Each Friday they will bring this notebook home and will be expected to share their letter with whomever they decided to write to and ask for them to reply in their journals. Not only does this help the kiddos see good writing and practice good writing, it also allows families to communicate about their learning!
Monthly Reading Reward
Officially beginning in the month of September the students will be working at home to earn a monthly reading incentive. As your kiddo reads at home, record their reading minutes in their planner on the monthly calendar and provide initials or a quick signature to show you have witnessed them reading. I will check periodically to see who is reading and make a note on the calendar. As it is an honor system I ask that once I have checked the minutes that you do not go back and add minutes to days that previously looked empty. This just helps ensure that calendars and kiddos are truthful about their efforts. Each month the kiddos will be encouraged to read 400 minutes or more at home. If they meet the goal, they will participate in a celebration at the end of the month. August was practice, but I will be sending a notice home in planners to show whether or not I saw your kiddo choosing to read at home. Also the pages of the calendar will be included for clarification.
Encourage your kiddo to get excited about this. The more you read, the more you'll grow. =)
We Are Learning To...
Reading
We will be wrapping up our unit on character traits and motivations this week. We will continue to practice both skills before the end of unit test, but we will also be practicing using complete sentences and restates when answering questions, as well as using context clues to determine the meanings of unfamiliar words.
Math
In Math we will continue to study multiplication and division. The students will continue to look for connections between the two operations, as well as learn additional strategies for solving multiplication and division equations.
