Setting Goals
Goal setting is part of life. Our students and teachers are busy setting concrete goals for our students. Please ask your child about math computational fluency goals, sight words, and remember to ask them about learning everyday.
STAR kindergarteners!
STAR = Sit up, Track the speaker, Ask Questions, and Respect all those around you!
GYSTC
Our third graders at a school field trip last week. GYSTC = Georgia Youth Science and Technology Centers came to the school to teach about geology. Geologist help find oil, natural gas, and other things that keep our world going.
Math
You may be experiencing some confusion when your student talks about math. Our focus is on a more concrete understanding and teaching learning strategies to solve problems. Of course, they still have to learn their basic addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division facts.
Vegetable Garden
Vegetable garden progress
Three classes at Western have been working hard to plant a fall vegetable garden. We have been planting in raised beds and having a lot of fun.
Loading a wheelbarrow can be fun!
Learning the importance of agriculture in the garden!
Planting is fun!
STEM
You may have heard about STEM in the media lately. STEM stands for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. The careers today are based in these fields and America's students aren't doing a great job pursuing these degrees. The Coweta County school system is looking for ways to encourage STEM thinking in our students. At Western we are encouraging our students to learn how to think, solve problems, and developing a strong basic understanding of mathematics.

Electronic communication
Make sure you are signing up for Edmodo and Remind101 from you child's teacher. It's a great way to stay connected with what's going on at school.
