Information
Down syndrome is caused by an extra copy of the 21 chromosome and is usually not inherited. Its features mostly include mental disability and different physical characteristics. Common physical features are low muscle tone, low height, eyes slanted upward, and a crease in the center of the palm. Their speech development is often delayed and behavioral problems are common. They can also suffer from birth defects, such as heart problems. One in every 691 children in America is born with Down syndrome. It is diagnosed if cells in the person's body has the extra chromosome.
