NFL DRAFT
2015
The NFL Draft is seen as one the most crucial events for football fans. The draft is the picking of the best college players who are ready to make it in the NFL for the next season. The 2015 NFL Draft will be held at Auditorium Theatre of Roosevelt University in, Chicago Illinois, On april 30-may 2. This is the first time in 51 years that the NFL Draft has been in chicago. The prior place of the draft the, Radio City music hall in New York was too small for this big event. Especially since Marcus Mariota and Jameis Winston are coming into the draft.
The last draft in Chicago was 1964 and only 35% of 7th and 8th graders from Eisenhower Middle School knew this statistic. Then, only 33% of that group knew it was at Chicago this year. And there is talk about the draft changing places every year. Vincent Manganella, an 8th grader from Eisenhower Middle School, stated, “The place will change because it’s all about the money and people want drafts at different place for publicity.” But Nick Danna, another 8th grader said, “The draft will be at chicago again.”
The big question is who is going to pick Marcus Mariota from the Oregon Ducks and Jameis Winston from Florida State. Mariota ended the 2014 season with 4454 passing yards, 42 touchdowns, and only 4 interceptions. Winston threw 3907 passing yards, 25 touchdowns, and 18 interceptions. Lance Zierlien believes Marcus Mariota will go to Tennessee but my interviewees think differently, Vinny thinks,“Tampa bay because he has been looking there” and Nick thinks “the jets because they need a QB.” Jameis Winston will get picked by tampa bay Lance Zierlien claims. And Nick agrees that “Tampa bay because they have a early pick and need a QB”. But Vinny disagrees with Nick and stated “the redskins because they run his offense”. So tune into ESPN this Thursday, April 30th through Saturday, May 2nd to see who is drafted to your team.

New Rules, New Fans?
Recent changes to Major League Baseball games could cause an uproar in fans turning back to America pastime, baseball. New rules implemented by the new commissioner Robert Manfred, are going to desperately change the length of games and hopefully bring back the beloved fans baseball needs. These rules include time limits for pitching, not being able to step fully out of the batter’s box and time limits to get on the field during the half inning. Many people think this will help baseball grow, but there’s also another side of the story that says it may ruin the game.
“Heading into the two late games(of opening day), the average game lasted 2 hours, 46 minutes, a much quicker pace than 2014's average time of 3 hours, 8 minutes.” according to ESPN. But compared 2014’s season average this is a huge improvement for people looking for a quick 9 innings./
A reason for the 2 hours and 46 minute games could be caused by the amount of talent possessed by the pitchers. Opening day is know for aces ( the best pitcher on the team), so after opening day the games could be delayed by the lack of talent on the field. That is just a different perspective on such a drastic change in time.
New rules implemented by the new commissioner Robert Manfred could have also contributed to the shorten length. One of the new rules called “ The batters box” rule states “The batter shall keep at least one foot in the batter's box throughout his at-bat, unless one of a series of established exceptions occurs, in which case the batter may leave the batter's box but not the dirt area surrounding home plate. (Exceptions include a foul ball or a foul tip; a pitch forcing the batter out of the batter's box; "time" being requested and granted; a wild pitch or a passed ball; and several others.)” These new rules definitely changed the pace of the game considering almost every batter stepped out after every pitch wasting valuable minutes or seconds.
Even the mlb’s commissioner said words about the drastic changes. These are his comments “ I think what I have said about changes to the game on the field is that it is an area you need to proceed with great caution. You always have to balance the desire to modernize the game, and make it more appealing to your fans against the history and traditions of the game. I believe you need to move with caution in this area so that you don’t make the kind of mistake you’re alluding to.” This obviously shows that he doesn’t feel that the rules are changing the game too much and its just the right amount. Matt Mickley, a person who dislikes baseball said “ I would want to watch a faster paced baseball game”. This shows how the mlb is getting attention for a quicker game.

NBA MVP Debate
Stephen Curry, or James Harden? People have been trying to figure out this question throughout the 2014-2015 NBA season. They are the two best basketball players in the world currently, but people are wondering who is going to become this season's MVP. They are the two players who are most likely to get the award, but there are other candidates. On the website Bleacher Report it states, “They've completely separated themselves from the pack statistically, so one of Stephen Curry, James Harden, LeBron James, Anthony Davis, Chris Paul or Russell Westbrook will give an acceptance speech in a matter of a few short weeks. The other five will be bummed.” LeBron James, Anthony Davis, Chris Paul, and Russell Westbrook are most likely not going to win MVP. Currently Curry and Harden have been taking over the NBA. These two players have had a lot of pressure in the month of March because that is the month when the regular season ends and the playoffs are coming up. Curry of the Golden State Warriors and Harden of the Houston Rockets are both in the playoffs.
You might be thinking if one of the players made the playoffs and the other didn’t, the one who didn't make it wont get the award. Nope, they determine the MVP based on the regular season and player stats. On the website USA Today it states, “In a day and age when a player's efficiency is being valued like never before, it's not even close when it comes to Curry v. Harden (48.7% overall shooting for Curry to 44% for Harden; 44.2% from three-point range to 37.8%; a league-leading 91.4% from the free-throw line for Curry to 86.6% for Harden). Harden is vastly superior when it comes to getting to the line (9.9 attempts per 36 to Curry's 4.7), which helps cut the gap between those two players in true shooting percentage, which takes two-pointers, three-pointers and free throws into account (63.8% for Curry and 60.5% for Harden).” Curry is beating Harden in field goal percentage, three point percentage, and free throw percentage . Harden is beating him in attempts on the free throw line. Curry is averaging 23.8 points, 7.7 assists, 4.3 rebounds, and 3.1 turnovers a game. Harden is averaging 27.4 points, 7 assists, 5.7 rebounds, and 4 turnovers.
On the defensive side of the floor Curry is averaging 0.2 blocks, and 2 steals a game. Harden is averaging 0.7 blocks, and 1.9 steals a game. These two players are great at stealing the ball and running the fast break to score or pass to another teammate and get an assist. On the website USA Today it states, “Harden is a professional jaywalker. He declared himself the best basketball player in the world before this season, and he has spent the year perfecting his acerbic style. The 6-5, 225-pound shooting guard flings himself into the lane, daring opponents to block his flailing shots without fouling him in the process. When he gets a clean look, he seems surprised. Flopping and offensive fouls are against the rules, but Harden knows their penalties and has accepted the risk of punishment.” James Harden is very confident about winning this trophy.
These two basketball players are the best players in the world currently. They are both extremely talented and both have the capability to win MVP. It will soon be determined by a hand-picked panel of sportswriters. Who do you think is going to win?
Furious 7
Furious 7 - The New Hit Movie
The Fast & Furious 7 Franchise has really went to the next level with their new Movie “Fast 7.” There is more stunts, action packed scenes and explosions. Movie Fanatics are racing down to theaters to check out the hit movie. Fast 7 launched worldwide on April 3rd of 2015 and its been breaking box office sales ever since. As Dave McNary, a film reporter said. “Furious 7″ has grossed $735.2 million overseas in 17 days and $273.7 million in North America after 15 days — making it the fastest movie to reach $1 billion.” When “Furious 7” launched, there were many doubts on how it would compare with the new director. Now people are praising him, saying this is the best one yet and he fits right in. Critics say he is a genius for making this movie. Many people wonder what scenes were edited out since Paul Walkers passing halfway through the making of the movie. I personaly think that the movie would have taken a totally different outcome.
Dom talks about how family always sticks together. Theres a big family story behind the movie. A new reader wouldn’t just catch on. You have to know some background information to know the entire story. There is a big vibe that family should always stick together and they are not friends but family. As Dom (Vin diesel) Says “I don’t have friends, I have family.” Furious 7 is not just a movie for its action, even though there is a high amount its breath-taking action. The core of the movies have a deeper meaning about family and brotherhood. The movie is great if you understand the whole thing. If this is the first Fast & Furious movie you have watched then you will not follow the story as well as someone that has seen all the movies. There is a big background to how they all got here and what they do. Like when one of the characters Dom flipped his car. They all ran to his aid even if it was putting their life in risk.
This Fast & Furious is the most action packed one yet. As Peter Travers from Rolling Stones said “Furious 7 is the best F&F by far, two hours of pure pow fueled by dedication and passionate heart.” Also Chris Nashawaty From Entertainment Weekly said “No one forks over 10 bucks to see one of these flicks for its logic. We go for the bananas demolition-derby mayhem. Furious 7 delivers that with the direct visceral rush of an EpiPen.” Critics and Movie Goers agree with these people. This is why its the most popular F&F yet. The budget for the movie was more than any other one which shows they are really stepping it up. Its also most growing one. The sales went up and up.
Finally, the Franchise has no hope of slowing down. Because you would think that a movie that has made $1 Billion worldwide is bound to have a sequel right? Well Vin Diesel took to the stage of CinemaCon recently and confirmed that Fast & Furious 8 is happening, and will reach theaters on April 14, 2017. So there will be another F&F for us fans to enjoy, but there is still one question, will it be better than Furious 7?
