Happenings Worth Hollering About

A Brand New Year!
Happy New Year everyone! My apologies about the tardiness of this email, but I do hope this newsletter finds you and yours well.
Just as a reminder, please make sure that you have written your child's name, first and last, in their jacket. I have noticed that a lot of jackets are being lost, and I know that jackets cost money, and that money adds up. Having your child's name in their jacket helps me get the jacket back to who it needs to go to, so I thank you in advance for your help.
It seems as though some nasty little bugs are floating around, so it is imperative that we reiterate good hygiene practices not only at school but in the home as well. We have learned a lot about germs already, so the students should be well aware of the necessity to diligently wash their hands and "vampire" cough and sneeze. I was unfortunately hit by one of the little bugs, and I had to be out for two days. :(
IMPORTANT:
Report cards and ITBS scores are coming home today, so please be on the lookout for this information.
If your child received a PINK media center notice of an overdue book instead of their report card, the book must either be turned in or paid for before receiving the withheld report card.
There is NO SCHOOL ON MONDAY, JANUARY 20th. Please make sure to mark this on your calendar.
All students now have access to the math program IXL. This program is AMAZING, and all of my math students will be receiving weekly assignments. I will be able see if they completed the assigned task. If you do not have internet access, PLEASE let me know. There is also an IXL app, so it's accessible on the iPad and iPhone as well. Login information is their Success Maker ID.
We also have access to Georgia Online Assessment System. This is a resource for CRCT type questions. A sheet went home yesterday with your child's ID and password.

REMINDERS:
Please sign and have your child return the report card envelope. If your child did not receive a report card envelope, that means I did not receive the envelope back from an earlier time.
I will start the weekly homework word problems next week. I know that we won't be in school Monday, but I will have one sheet of homework for math that will go home on Tuesday. It will be due at the end of the week. Students are to do one word problem per night.
The Dojo store will be open on Fridays. I will not be deleting their points at the end of the 9 weeks; instead, the points will just continue to accumulate until the end of the year. When the students cash in their points, they must use all of them at that time. This will make it easier for me to keep track of points b/c I will just need to reset points instead of subtracting a gazillion points one by one.
Hopefully Nerfy and Harry can be back next week. The weather has been so wacky, and I have been hesitant to bring them to school because of the fear of little creature frostbite! Once it is warmer, their cute and cuddly little faces will be here everyday.
Thank you for all that you do, and I look forward to our second semester together.
-Ms. Garris, Nerfy, and Harry
