From Principal Klein
As a District, one of our goals this year is to implement effective monitoring and assessment tools to measure progress for academics and the social emotional needs of students. Toward that end, we have begun the implementation of FastBridge academic assessment and student behavior screener. These assessments are administered three times a year--fall, winter and spring. Your child’s scores are now available for the winter assessment window in ParentVue.

Your child’s FastBridge and SAEBRS scores are now available in your ParentVUE Account. You can access ParentVue via the mobile app, our school website, or the District website.
To access your child’s scores, please log on to ParentVUE and select Test History from the menu on the left.
If you are using a laptop or computer to access ParentVUE, we strongly suggest you use Google Chrome as your browser.
If you are on a laptop or computer and experience problems, please use the app on your smartphone or try clearing your browser’s cache.
It is important to remember that all information contained in this letter should always be used as a starting point for conversations about individual student learning needs, and in conjunction with other sources of information about student performance. FastBridge and SAEBRS are just two of many data points used by school and district staff. We also consider state test scores, classroom assessments, teacher observations, and input from parents when making decisions about student learning. If you have questions about your child’s scores or their progress in reading or math, please contact your child’s teacher. If you have questions about your child’s SAEBRS and/or MYSAEBRS scores, please contact your child’s counselor at the middle school level or your child’s principal at the elementary level.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Debra Klein
Principal

10th Annual Charity Dodgeball Tournament for 5th Grade
On Sunday, March 12, 2023, Franklin Middle School will be hosting our 10th Annual Charity Dodgeball Tournament with our 5th grade tournament. The games for 5th graders will run from 1:00 p.m. until approximately 4:00 p.m. The theme of the 2023 event is “Back to the Future,” a slogan that represents a decade of raising awareness and funds for a variety of charities while looking ahead to the future. With that theme in mind, the 2023 tournament will equally benefit the following charities and organizations: Ann and Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago, Midwest Shelter for Homeless Veterans and Tuskegee Next.
A popular and growing segment of Franklin’s Dodgeball Tournament has been our 5th Grade Tournament. This is the only opportunity for kids in CUSD 200 to truly compete against kids from other elementary schools. It is a sport that is unparalleled since there are no “travel teams” or leagues for dodgeball. We would like to keep it this way and want to promote school spirit. Teams must be made up of students from the same elementary school. We are looking to avoid the “All-Star” teams of students from various schools that we have started to see over the last few events. Again, we want to keep this a fun event that promotes school spirit.
We truly hope kids use this as an opportunity to have fun and be inclusive. Foam balls are used to limit the risk of injury. Students from elementary schools can form boys or girls teams. Details for forming teams and costs are listed on the informational sheet in the registration packet. We encourage kids to have fun, wear crazy costumes or outfits and enjoy our well-stocked concessions. We also ask that you be appropriate with team names and costumes. At the end of the day, this is a charity event and we do not want to lose sight of our mission. It is important to note, we will be adhering to a firm registration deadline of March 7 this year so we can properly schedule teams and provide a better experience for all.
To get the registration process started, please have 5th Grade students join our Google Classroom using the code 5ubgffw. This will be a student-friendly central location to find registration information and waivers. It will also give students the opportunity to ask questions in a forum they are likely familiar with. Students have the option to invite a parent/guardian to stay in the loop as well. We will also drop off registration packets at school if needed.
We look forward to seeing you on March 12th at Franklin Middle School in Wheaton.
Thank you for your consideration and support!
