A Weekly Look at Grant Elementary School & the Grant PTA

Week of May 27, 2019

A Message from Principal Grey:

A Message from your Grant PTA

From the welcome BBQ in the fall to the Spring Art Show, it's been a great year full of PTA success. The Grant PTA, with critical help from so many volunteers, held a successful jogathon, brought Alice in Wonderland to the stage, showcased performers in Grant's Got Talent, put on a dance and a bowling event, a movie night, a Holiday Shoppe, an amazing gala auction and multiple sign up parties. We funded school supplies for all classrooms, field trips, buses for 6th grade camp and a beautiful teacher appreciation week. We bought keyboards for upper grade classes and raised money for our new Tech- Maker's Lab. None of this would have been possible without a lot of volunteers giving their time and a lot of donations from our Grant families. Grant is great because you help make it that way and we want you to know we appreciate it so much. Your efforts to support Grant make this a very special community.

Field Day, 5/30 8:15-9:50 am

Thursday, May 30th is a school-wide Field Day. There will be all kinds of fun happening on the black top! Please have kids wear clothes and shoes that are appropriate for sporting activities. As much of the day will be spent outdoors, applying sunscreen before school and bringing a water bottle may also be a good idea.

Early Pick Up for Last Day of School, 5/31

Don't forget that the last day of school ends at noon! Have the very best summer everyone!

Help Prevent "Summer Slide!"

Learning and achievement don't just take a back seat during the summer, they actually inch backward! The average student loses a month of academic-calendar learning each summer. It's called the summer slide and it contributes to a more pronounced achievement gap. What can you do to keep those your student's learning moving forward? Use digital learning tools like Kahn Academy, take summer trips to the Library and READ! Going on vacation? Have your kids pick out summer reading material to bring along! Ask your teacher if they might have a summer packet. Here's a great article on the subject:
