Principal's Message
ELK Family,
As we head in to the this last week of the semester, we want to encourage all Elks to focus on finishing the semester strong! Semester Exams begin on Wednesday (see the Exam Schedule here) and we have an early release on Friday at 12:45 pm. Students who qualify for exam exemptions will be notified on Tuesday. Please remember, that an exam exemption is not an attendance exemption on exam day.
We hope everyone has a wonderful break from school and enjoys plenty of time with family and friends! The Elk Call will resume on January 2. School will resume on January 3.
Happy Holidays from the Elk Family!
Go ELKS!!

I’m So Stressed!!!
Exams, practices, projects, friends, work…these are just a few of the things that can lead to stress in our student’s lives. Sometimes, they are able to handle/juggle the demands of life okay but other times, they struggle. It’s important for us all to monitor our students and watch for any major changes that may happen, i.e., change in sleep patterns, sudden change in mood, not eating or eating too much. If you notice some of these changes, one of the greatest things you can do as a parent is talk to them. We all know teens don’t like talking to their parents, but this is a time where you need to make it happen. Don’t let them get by with one word answers, look for patterns. Of course, you can also give your student’s counselor a call or a teacher to see what changes have been seen at school.
Some helpful things to do when stressors start:
· Get a good night’s sleep.
· Eat breakfast
· Use a planner or calendar on your phone
· Find something that is calming and do it. Listen to music, use stress balls, draw or paint.
· Go for a walk or exercise.
If you find that these things don’t help or your student is still “stressing out”, don’t hesitate to let your student’s counselor know or contact your student’s physician. They have resources and information that may help.

Optimist Club Essay Contest
Motivate ‘em now . . . they’ll apply the rules on the run!
You know the old tenet: “I hear and I forget. I see and I remember. I do and I understand.”
It’s time to start doing. The Optimist Club’s annual Essay Contest is a time-tested way to prove that doing is the best way to learn. There is no better way for your students to gain command of their language skills than to write. This year, students who enter the Optimist Club Essay Contest are asked to write on "Chasing Optimism in the Face of Challenges." This is a subject than can be interlaced into your current curriculum.
Need more motivation? Effective this year, the Optimist Club of Fort Worth will award scholarships for winners at the local level. The scholarship awards for this year will be $1000 for first place, $750 for second place, and $500 for third place. The winner at the local level will be eligible for district competition, where a solo additional first place scholarship award shall be conferred by Optimist International, in the amount of $2500.
