Controlling Urban (Or Surban) Sprawl
What is the issue about?
Urbanization dominating our rural land use. We're causing negative impacts to the environment. We need to minimize negative impacts of urban sprawl while still be able to manage residential, commercial, industrial and other communities services.
Where is it taking place?
Why is this issue a concern to Canadian communities?
Mississauga's Agricultural Density
112.9 km/3 farms=37.63 miles squares
Area- 21.5 km square
Area- 13.3 miles square
Who is involved with the issue?
Occupying too much space since population is very high.
Promoting use of Industries for efficiency of time, not source availability.
Causing pollution, which damages the ecosystem. Life will be harmed by carbon monoxide being released into the atmosphere as water will be contaminated, causing our terrestrial land to be damaged.
They want Earth to be green and use renewable sources.
They want their soils to be healthy and rich.
They're being cut down for manufacturing purposes. By eliminating trees, we're interfering with the carbon cycle and damaging the food web.
Do their viewpoints differ?
More People, More Land
A lot of people would prefer to have more land to live with rather than being in a tight houses, like apartment. People would like to live in detached houses for the sake of their wants and needs. They need to go to suburban and/or rural areas to find cheap land. More people are moving into suburban areas causing urban sprawl.
They want to make a lot of money to sustain their businesses. They rely on industries to make products really fast. As businesses grow, more industries need to be built to sustain the businesses.
Industries are required to sustain businesses. They use machines and non-renewable energy to be fast with quantity but not well in quality, but IT'S BUSINESS! These industries take up quite a number of space, so it'll take place over the rich soils which will ruin our local markets.
More People, More Land
Environmentalists stress the fact that we're not sustainable and causing enormous footprints. We use too much non-renewable energy which harms Earth because of the contaminants being released.
Our rich soils will be destroyed and will dry. We won't be able to regain our soils because of critical damages caused by industries and urban sprawl.
There won't be much trees left if urban sprawl continues around Mississauga. Our oxygen will have a major decline as less plants can consume carbon dioxide and release oxygen for us to breath.
