No School Friday, Jan 31

Kindness Week

Great Kindness Challenge Week is a way that schools across the world have set aside time to focus on kindness. It will be celebrated in South Milwaukee January 27 through February 3.

Coin War - The contributions to our coin war go towards building a school in Mexico. Starting Monday through February 3rd, students may bring coins or paper bills for their classroom jar. Coins give each class points, but you can put paper bills into another classroom's jar, taking away points from their total (but still giving generously towards the school project in Mexico).

Spirit Days - Let's see everyone celebrate kindness with these dress-up days:

• Monday, Jan 27 - Kindness Rocks - Rock Star Day - dress like a rock star

• Tuesday, Jan 28 - Crazy for Kindness - Mismatched Clothes and/or Crazy Hair Day

• Wed, Jan 29 - Hats off to Kindness - Hat Day

• Thurs, Jan 30 - Team Up for Kindness - Wear sports apparel

• Mon, Feb 3 - Dream of Kindness - Pajama Day

We will have additional activities at school during the week. We encourage you to talk about kindness every day at home, but especially during the coming week.

Be on time & Stay all day

We are doing fantastic as a school with being on time to school this week! The number of daily tardies has decreased dramatically. This week, 42 students were tardy, which means that 265 students were on time every day. Thank you! As a school, we truly believe we should be able to get to the point where every student is on time every day.

Thank you, PTO!

The Lakeview PTO hosted our first Family Game Night on Friday, January 17. About 50 people braved the snow to play Bingo, Perfection, Chutes & Ladders, Trouble, and so many other games. One student said, "Can we do this every Friday night?" PTO events in February include the monthly PTO meeting on February 13th at 7:00 p.m. and the Snowball Dance on February 27th from 5:00-7:00 p.m.

Girls on the Run

Families in grade 3rd, 4th, and 5th that are interested in this year's Girls on the Run should see this brochure for more information. Registration opens February 1st and there are a limited number of spots available. If you have questions, the contact information for Ms. Wilke and Ms. Chmielewski are in the brochure.

Relationships that Kids Need

I thought this was a great article about the types of relationships that kids need as they grow and bloom. The title is "Relationships Are Important. How Do We Build Them Effectively With Kids?"

Lions ROAR! Recognize a staff member at Lakeview

Is there a staff member at Lakeview that you would like to recognize? Our PTO has set up an easy way for you to recognize anyone at Lakeview that is making a difference for your child. That could be a teacher, paraprofessional aide, secretary, food service, or custodian. There are so many people working together for our students! We encourage you to let the PTO know so they can pass on your compliments! Here is the link to the survey. (You are welcome to submit more than one!)
