A Note From Mrs. Mathe

This has been an amazing week! We've seen lots of smiles, hugs from friends, new friendships forming and memories made. I hope your child(ren) have come home with wonderful stories of their first week of school!

New this year in the Publisher, we will be including all grade level newsletters. We hope that this streamlines communication between school and home, and frees up some space in your inbox. As always, if you have any questions regarding grade level activities or information, please contact your child's teacher.

Dismissal has gone very well this week. Thank you all for your participation. We will adjust the dismissal time to our regular time beginning Monday. This may affect bus routes, our car line, and bikers/walkers. As we continue to solidify our routines, we will run on a more regular schedule.

Prioritizing Safety

Providing a safe learning environment is at the forefront of everyone’s mind. In addition to the many measures already in place such as secure vestibules and security cameras, you will notice some enhancements with the day-to-day operations. This year, all doors are required to be locked at all times. During times when students are changing classes or when large events are scheduled, doors will be actively monitored by staff. All staff and visitors must wear a visible badge at all times, with visitors’ badges including a time and date stamp. We will also be addressing additional requirements from the State and monitoring updates to the best practices we already follow. Safety is our ultimate responsibility and takes all of us working together.

Powell Handbook Addendum

Please view our Powell Student Handbook Addendum. The purpose of this handbook addendum is to inform you of important information regarding day to day life at Powell; however, at times it may be necessary to make a few changes during the school year. In this event, the addendum will be updated, as well as you will be notified via letter, email, or website. I want to encourage you to visit our school website at http://powell.conroeisd.net as important information and events will be posted there frequently. In fact, you may want to bookmark this address for easy access. The 2022-2023 Conroe Independent School District Student/Parent Handbook is available to you online here.

Cafeteria Update

The meal menus are posted on the Powell website monthly to allow you to review menu choices. Please review meal options with your child if they plan to purchase breakfast or lunch. The cafeteria is no longer able to alter the meals to meet children's specific food preferences. If your child has food allergies, the cafeteria requires doctor's documentation to accommodate allergies. The link to the form can be found on the Child Nutrition website under "Special Diets". If you have any questions, you may contact our cafeteria manager, Keandra Glass at kglass@conroeisd.net.

Viewing Campus Accountability Ratings

Starting on August 15th, you will be able to view the Texas Education Agency rating for our school, plus much more, by visiting TXschools.gov. You will also be able to search for schools using our address and compare our school to others. To learn more about Powell, your child’s STAAR performance, and how to use this information, please visit TXschools.gov. We’re excited about the start of another great year!

Access to Instructional Resources

Furthering the educational partnership between parents and the District and in compliance with SB 3, parents can login to their student’s learning management system (Canvas) and access electronic instructional materials through the SSO. To obtain your student’s login information, log in to Parent Access Center and view your student’s credentials in the section Student Username/Password. Please note that students in grades 7-12 have the ability to change their password. Please check with your child as appropriate.

Parent Acces Center

Parent Access Center (PAC) is the CISD system for parents which provides online access to all your child’s class assignments, assignment grades, test grades, as well as attendance, discipline, progress reports, and report cards. If you currently have a Parent Access Center account, there is no need to renew your account as you have had to do in previous years. Parents can register for a PAC account from the Conroe ISD home page under the Student/Parent link. Student data will not be available until school begins.
