Starbooks Book Tasting
Before winter break, Mrs. Rettinger's 5th grade class took part in a "Starbooks Book Tasting". Students had been working on book genres and this event was a PERFECT way to wrap up what they had learned.
Mrs. Rettinger was able to use some of her classroom funds from PATT to help purchase snacks and hot chocolate for students to enjoy as they listened to guest readers read to them. After hearing about the book, they wrote reviews and we assessed the genres.
It was a huge success and a great memory for our 5th graders!
The Spelling Bee is Coming!
All fourth and fifth graders are encouraged to participate in this year's Spelling Bee on February 8th. The spelling bee is a great opportunity for students to challenge themselves in a positive, friendly environment. Interested participants should talk to their classroom teacher to sign up for a spot in the bee. Study lists are available from Mrs. Troxel, Mr. Nate, or Mrs. Meier. G-O-O-D L-U-C-K, competitors!
The Washington Elementary Pupil Services team would like to remind families of the importance of internet safety practices. Please take some time to discuss how to safely use the internet with your child. Children's Hospital Wisconsin suggests these basic guidelines for parental supervision:
- Spend time online together to teach your kids appropriate online behavior.
- Keep the computer in a common area where you can watch and monitor its use, not in individual bedrooms. Monitor any time spent on smartphones or tablets.
- Bookmark kids' favorite sites for easy access.
- Check your credit card and phone bills for unfamiliar account charges.
- Find out what, if any, online protection is offered by your child's school, after-school center, friends' homes, or any place where kids could use a computer without your supervision.
- Take your child seriously if he or she reports an uncomfortable online exchange.
