Superintendent's Update

October 9, 2020

CCPS Community,

Next week we will welcome back students with our next phase of re-opening. Each student who expressed interest in coming back will attend school in-person one day per week. We are hopeful that conditions will allow us to further expand face-to-face learning in the next round. We will continue to seek the guidance of the Cecil County Health Department in order to ensure that we are keeping health and safety at the forefront of these decisions.

Yesterday evening we joined many around the state in honoring our Teacher of the Year via a Maryland Public Television broadcast. While this year's recognition did not include the large state gala in Baltimore, it was wonderful to see our very own Chelsea Jones of Elkton Middle School and the other twenty-three county Teachers of the Year from around the state showcased for their dedication to the teaching profession. Baltimore City's Wyatt Oroke was named Maryland Teacher of the Year but we couldn't be more proud to have Cecil County represented in this year's state process by Chelsea.

As we approach the Halloween season, our partners at the Cecil County Health Department have provided safety guidance and suggestions to encourage families to think about creative ways to celebrate this year. Read more HERE.

Please be sure to check out the additional information below which includes important calendar reminders for next week, how to access our Virtual College & Career Fair resources, our latest FAQ regarding safely re-opening schools, and more.

Sincerely,

Jeffrey A. Lawson, Ed.D.

Superintendent.
